Grateful for my blessings and blessed to give back, I’m giving 35 grand to anyone who messages “GRACE” on Telegram @Georgestones12, I understand that many people are struggling with bills, and I want to help reduce that burden. It’s a season of love, kindness, and blessings.

I'm a 5'11 guy who owns heels. Leather thigh high boots to be exact

God they were torture, but damn did I feel hot during that phase. The tradeoff can be hard to justify for some, reasonable for others

You see women in all the shows and movies wearing high healed footwear. The other night while rewatching the bad batch I noticed one of the female characters with high heels boots. The one place where you can just draw them to the desired height and they put a pirate in high heels.

[–] Tudsamfa@lemmy.world 41 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The alpha-male influencers told me women see me as human garbage if I'm under 6 feet, and they're right:

Since I started wearing them, so many girls complimented me and my stilettos.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Even were it fashionable for someone like me to wear any kind of high heels, since I broke my ankle I have too much of a phobia of falling down to ever try.

[–] 42firehawk@fedinsfw.app 2 points 17 hours ago

I get you, I tore a tendon in my foot and can't wear high heals at all anymore, and frankly most formal women's shoes force my foot into an angle it can't support anymore.

[–] nullspace@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

The only time I've seen a woman wear heels this high was when she was under 5' without heels.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 7 points 1 day ago

Viewing this image made my calf start cramping.

[–] QualifiedKitten@discuss.online 14 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Fun tidbit: high heels shift the stance from plantigrade to digitigrade. Many animals, including cats and dogs, are digitigrades and naturally walk on just their toes.

[–] nanometer1625@thelemmy.club 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I think most mammals are digitigrades, right? Afaik the only plantigrades are humans and bears.

Oh nice, the wiki page you linked has a list. The other living plantigrade mammals are:

  • Several primates (including humans and lemurs) Carnivora:
  • Ursidae: bears (with the exception of the hemicyonines)
  • Musteloidea: skunks, raccoons, weasels, badgers, otters, and red pandas
  • Rodents: mice, rats, porcupines
  • Hedgehogs
  • Hyraxes
  • Marsupialia: kangaroos, opossums
[–] dragnucs@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

True, but won't be good for humans unless we get a mutation that gives us appropriate feet structure to be digitigrade.

That's what the shoes are for

Absolutely! Just thought it was interesting and tangentially relevant.

[–] veggay@kbin.earth 45 points 2 days ago (3 children)

They're just one more way to control women.

There could be a whole dissertation written about this and I'm not gonna go there in a Lemmy Shitpost comment section. But I will say: "Women choose to wear them" - yes, and society has forced us in many ways by making it part of uniforms and being drilled into us since we're little kids that we need to conform if we want to succeed. I say 'we' because I'm a woman but I have never worn shoes like that and I never will, it has caused me issues to reject such standards. I'm lucky I chose a career where I've always been allowed to wear pants and sneakers instead of skirts and heels. When I was in primary school I would constantly get kicked out of class and sent to the principal's office because I chose to wear the uniform's winter pants during summer instead of skirts, couldn't wear the boy's shorts. Because me following the rules but refusing to wear a skirt was more important than me getting an education. "What will you do when you get a job?", "nobody will want to hire you with that attitude"... Men don't realize how much women's bodies are controlled from the moment we're born. It's gotten better in the last years but shit like that still happens more than yall realize.

[–] nanometer1625@thelemmy.club 10 points 1 day ago

She's out of control! Initiate the lockdown!

[–] TheSecondVariety@lemmy.ca 17 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I didn't realize how bad some of these issues were until I was talking to a woman I work with. She was sort of half considering going back to an old career (white collar, not public facing) instead of our workplace (very much blue collar/male dominated) but she mentioned that she doesn't want to have to start wearing makeup again. I was a bit confused because I didn't think that makeup would really be seen as a requirement there. She said it wasn't a requirement but there was a lot of pressure to do it.

Daily makeup looks almost as bad as occasionally wearing heels to me, but I do neither so IDK.

[–] veggay@kbin.earth 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

yeah... "a lot of pressure" translates to "you don't get hired" if it's clear you'll refuse or make a fuss about it or "they make your job painful every day" if you're already hired and refuse. It depends on the industry and company but it's pretty standard in most customer facing jobs. It was much worse 20 years ago than it is today

[–] TheSecondVariety@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ya, I kind of gathered that from the way it was described but this wasn't even remotely customer facing. Not that it makes it ok in customer facing jobs either but it blew my mind.

[–] veggay@kbin.earth 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

ooof then yeah, she's being pressured into being eye candy for the managers, disgusting

And yep, the only people that care about such things are the wrong people. I had a lawyer show up to an online meeting with me with like a white t-shirt or something super casual like that, he apologized, I couldn't have cared less because either way he's super polite and I'm there to get his knowledge and not have him look good for me.

[–] TheSecondVariety@lemmy.ca 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

ooof then yeah, she's being pressured into being eye candy for the managers, disgusting

Without saying too much... no.

[–] veggay@kbin.earth 1 points 3 hours ago

I see. If it's women that are her managers pressuring her into doing it then it's just internalized misogyny, she's not being pressured to be eye candy but those women pressuring her into it were on their time and never did the internal work to understand what was happening and why such regulations are backwards and pointless for actual professionalism. In any case I don't know your friend's situation, I'm just talking about the most common and prevalent situations. I was pressured by women to dress certain ways too, "you won't find a husband/job if you sit like that or don't wear make up or don't wear dresses", "heels would look so good on you!" (I'm quite short), "that's not very feminine of you", blah blah, it's just things that they were drilled into believing until they stopped questioning them and then they repeat it to the next generation / their peers.

[–] Wolf314159@startrek.website 8 points 2 days ago (3 children)

It's interesting how the situation flips somewhat for men in adulthood. In most white collar office jobs it is totally unacceptable for anyone to wear shorts, flip flops, and tank tops. However, women are allowed or encouraged to wear skirts, strappy shoes, and sleeveless blouses. In hotter climates, I've known a few men that have seriously considered wearing skirts because pants are so uncomfortable, but the social stigma is just too much. Of course, those men still wouldn't be pressured to wear make-up daily too. I have no idea how men can wear an entire suit, especially a jacket, in subtropical and tropical climates. Thankfully I work in a field that does not pressure women away from wearing pants, but again pants suck in the subtropics. Plus, women's business casual pants are almost a completely different thing than men's pants with regards to fitting closely and being made of thin to nearly sheer materials.

I hope this doesn't feel like sealioning, more that I feel like men need to be shown how the patriarchy is bad for everybody. Blue collar dress codes are at least mostly centered around safety. While it seems white collar dress codes are mostly about "professionalism", which is mostly just code for gender norms, misogyny, and patriarchy.

[–] rowansprig@leminal.space 4 points 22 hours ago

I'm a woman and the standards for men really upset me as well. I would 100% support any man who started wearing a kilt to the office as a way to fight the norms.

I read the other comment a woman put here and I get what she's saying, but I did also think she was minimising how much men are completely discouraged from any sort of self expression in clothing. Although also to be fair, I don't work in an industry where there's an expectation for women to look pretty so men can ogle them, so I probably just don't have the experience to feel as strongly about it.

I guess, we should all fight against the injustices we see, and help each other against the ones we can't see.

[–] rbos@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

I've been in Japan a couple weeks and the number of men wearing full-ass suits in 29 degree weather is insane. I'm sweating in shorts and a breathable athletic shirt.

[–] veggay@kbin.earth 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, you still cannot compare "I'm a bit hot in these pants" to "you need to be eye candy and pretend you aren't bothered by men oogling at you while you're forced to treat them nicely" or "fuck your spine and feet bone structure so you look nice for men" though. (Those high heels not only mess up your feet, they also mess up your spine) I took the "I'm a bit hot in 35C degree weather and the school keeps taking me out of classes to tell me I'm ruining my future" as a 10 year old kid over using a skirt every day. I believe grown men can deal with wearing pants that they can still choose the cloth of.

But yes, patriarchy definitely affects men too, neither of us have any need to be dealing with this nonsense. Feminism is not just for women's rights.

[–] Wolf314159@startrek.website 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Empathy begins with relating to others experiences by comparison. I did not intend to minimize or be dismissive of your experience in the way your reply to me was. They are two sides of an unfairly balanced coin. Most men are never going to be able to really empathize with high heels and make-up, but they can understand being stuffed into uncomfortable and impractical clothes. We should be able to commiserate and relate without being dismissive and hostile.

[–] veggay@kbin.earth 3 points 1 day ago

I didn't intend to come across dismissive or hostile, and I agree with you on the rest of what you're saying. If it was my language that's just how I express myself, truly, as I have strong feelings about this, it is something that has been beaten into me since the moment I started to have opinions about how I dress myself because me choosing the options that men have is too much to ask of society. Also, regardless of what your intentions were that comparison felt a bit out of touch. I think a much better example on how patriarchy affects men negatively is the social isolation and the "men don't cry". But saying that being forced into pants because it's hot when I'm talking about being forced into being eye candy since we're little girls and literally screwing up our bone structures is not a fair comparison and totally missing the point. As if I said that a slap on the face hurts as much as being kicked in the balls.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm tall and wearing this shit while tall should be considered torture. There are some cute ones though 😭

[–] Triasha@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I'm nearly 6' tall and I feel amazing in heels.

I have balance issues though, so I don't wear them anymore.

[–] remotelove@lemmy.ca 18 points 2 days ago

Well usually, they put them on their feet as shown in the picture.

[–] daggermoon@piefed.world 7 points 2 days ago (3 children)

As a foot fetishist, I'm not a fan of heels. I much prefer sexy boots or vans, or really anything else except crocs.

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have the opposite. Every sexy love interest in every 80s movie was the woman in heels. They made a point of showing them.

Wired something in my adolescent brain that I still cant shake to this day. My higher brain knows better but caveman brain "heels = keen for sex"

[–] daggermoon@piefed.world 2 points 1 day ago

Are you a foot fetishist?

And that's why all the kids are wearing socks with sandles these days. To derail the feet people.

[–] daggermoon@piefed.world 1 points 1 day ago

Some feet people like that. You can't derail all of us.

You're all so wrong about this. Socks in sandals are incredible, and they can look great too. They can either absorb a bit of moisture, or keep your feet warm while breathing better than any shoe could ever hope for. Not to mention a comfortable pair of slip ons after a long run is one of the happiest places to be for tired feet.

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I think they grossed us both out.

The only people who can wear stilettos at a somewhat comfortable level are men.

Because their feet are generally longer, the angle is less extreme.

As someone who has small feet, I've never been able to wear more than 2 inch heel and even that contorted my foot similar to this image.

But drag queens, They can stomp around in heels like nobody's business

[–] 404@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

...so different sizes of the same stiletto model would have the same height of the heel? Seems weird to me that they wouldn't scale it with the rest of the stiletto. Or are you just comparing heels in absolute heights regardless of model/size?

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

So the steepness of the angle would depend on how close the heel is to the ball of the foot.

Here is an illustration.

[–] 404@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

Yes exactly. It's weird they don't scale it. The two images don't look like the same model to me.
