Donald Trump has found a new way to make America great again: paying people to become professional snitches.

On Tuesday, the president and JD Vance unveiled a $25 million fraud whistleblower fund, under which Americans who provide tips leading to successful prosecutions would receive large financial rewards. Basically, you can rat on your enemies to the government for cash now — and, Trump added, he will be the personal arbiter on whether the fraud is real and how much money you get.

Just think of it as a big reality TV show, like when Oprah gives out the cars except it’s that guy at work you once fell out with and you get to send him to jail.

Trump added, he will be the personal arbiter on whether the fraud is real and how much money you get.

No-one will be getting a red cent.

Well, I know a guy who is selling pardons, giving Pentagon and Mining contracts to his family, no bid contacts to his friends, taking crypto bribes, bribes for tariff relief etc. , etc.,

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 34 points 1 day ago

This is literally 1984 shit, as in it's actually a thing the book talks about, not hyperbole.

25 mil is a insult to whistle blowers. He has spent more on golf.

Dr. Mehmet Oz, who gave an incensed little speech about how people in California are being paid to unpack groceries and play mahjong in senior centers

I don't even know where to start with this. This sounds like an AI hallucination.

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 56 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I'd… I'd like to be paid to unpack groceries and play mahjong in senior centers

[–] A_Very_Big_Fan@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Fr, I'd work for cheap if that were the work

I feel like that's probably a huge misrepresentation of something legitimate.

Like maybe the found an activities coordinator or recreational therapist or something and asked them what they were doing that day and they answered "well right now I'm unpacking these groceries for a cooking class we're doing tomorrow, and then I'm gonna go get things ready for game night, and I'm gonna be teaching them how to play mahjong"

Or maybe they just found the kitchen staff playing mahjong on their lunch break after unpacking a bunch of groceries.

[–] CobraCommander@quokk.au 10 points 1 day ago

Or someone working in care helping with grocery shopping and socialising with clients.

I can hear the conservative talk radio hosts my parents worshiped when I was growing up complaining about this sort of thing, saying they ain’t real jobs.

Conservatives especially but really it’s probably a much larger portion of Americans than I want to think about, have been so thoroughly pilled by capitalist brainwashing that they think a job doesn’t count unless someone involved is making money from the job.

“Cause if it isn’t making dollars, then it isn’t making sense. If you aren’t moving units then youre not worth the expense” -David Bazan

[–] ikidd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 day ago

They're eating the dogs, they're eating the cats.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 11 points 1 day ago

Wouldn't that come with the job of caring for the people at a senior center? Like, the ladies at the daycare I went to as a kid had to stock the kitchen and played games with us, seems like kind of the same deal depending on how much help the seniors need. Should they not be compensated for that?

It won't be people ratting out their coworkers. He wants dirt on his enemies.

Anyway, he's just dangling the money as bait. He'll never pay out, unless it's to a crony.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago

Ah, the good old Nazi Germany "Blockwart". Yep, another tick off on the list.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 71 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Oh good. Stasi techniques.

[–] zarathustrad@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, but now your the Nazi for trying to stop a genocide, and your neighbors can rat you out for cash if you make anti-semitic comments like "Please stop killing brown people to build a Trump Tower on the Gaza Strip.".

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

ZOMG!!! How can you write such things?!? You must be antisemitic.

This is for kickbacks or bribes. You won't be selected unless you know him personally.

[–] Obviouslywrong@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago

No it's the Russian system. Everyone in the administration gets bribes and kickbacks all the time, only those who fall out of favor get exposed, there is no actual calling that doesn't matter. It's just a way of punishing people that displease trump by exposing their shocking corruption, while everyone else's is there but hidden. When everyone gets corruption only those who are naughty to the president get punished.

[–] humanamerican@lemmy.zip 34 points 1 day ago

It will be used for that. But it may also be used to put me in a camp for typng this comment... eventually

And if not this proclamation, then the next.

We are here. This is fascism.

[–] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 22 points 1 day ago

They will take the tips and reneg on the payout, grifting 101

[–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 50 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hi, yes, is this the White House? Yes, I’d like to report a convicted felon and fraudster who’s harboring an illegal alien wife. They receive insane sums in government support draining resources from real, hardworking Americans.

Where?

Yes, they’re actually in DC, the White House in fact.

…

Hello? Hello??

I know a guy who spent millions of taxpayer dollars running political ads to stoke his own ego. Maybe I can report him and get a payout.

[–] DeafOnaList@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Two things are all but guaranteed to happen:

  • Narcs will narc on fraud that doesn't really exist. Something, something, false flag fiesta.

  • Naive, well-meaning narcs will narc on real fraud that is actually state-sanctioned and will find themselves on a list (or worse). This signals the fraudsters to get even fraudier. Lots of gaslighting of the narc may follow. Might even throw them into the loonie bin for such lunacy. And loonie bins are great for taking out those deemed to be trash, those blithering dissenting pains in the ass.

Watch your backs out there, yo. And each others'.

The Whitehouse ballroom? The reflecting pool? Trump accounts? Argentinian "beef"? Gimme muh money!!!

[–] Janx@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

Of course! Let me just check on who's going to judge this slush fund...

Trump added, he will be the personal arbiter on whether the fraud is real and how much money you get.

[–] rbb36@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How it happened...

  • Trump: We're not grifting enough.
  • Miller: We're grifting all the grift. Every scheme we know, in parallel.
  • Big Balls: We're not smart enough. ~~AI~~ SI is smarter. It can think of more.
  • Trump: I already asked the Google.
  • Big Balls: We need a fraud-specialized training dataset.
  • Miller: Say we'll pay them to tell us about fraud schemes.
  • Trump: I'm not paying them.
  • Miller: You never do. Just tell them you will.
  • Trump: Are you - a very bald and very short man - criticizing me?
  • Miller: No, sir. 'mirin'.

Don't call Thiel's fucktoys groomed for doge by their own nicknames. Ball boy here the one in question.

[–] 7rokhym@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

Next he will fund the Department of Education with 1 mandate, teach children to snitch on their parents.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

So a one stop shop to report Trump fraud? 🤔

[–] humanamerican@lemmy.zip 26 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Holy Shit, what the fuck did I just read…these people are clinically insane.

[–] cmbabul@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

For real this is one of the more jarring things I’ve read about this admin in a while. And I keep up with it far more than is probably healthy.

I’ve been white knuckling the past few weeks because I have this gut feeling that midterms are going to be a crazy watershed moment and it appears that tensions are beginning to boil over

I expect this announcement was released two weeks prior so that they can weaponize it in battleground elections. This might get really ugly really fast

[–] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 4 points 1 day ago

So true, it really is crazy...I mean these are very un-serious people and they have a lot of power in their hands.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Republican presidents always seem to start some neighborhood NARC program.

See George W Bush and the TIPS program for reference.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

“The president always loses, whatever the reason, the midterms,” said Trump. “Great presidents, lousy presidents. Oz,is there a reason you can think of, medically?” Oz laughed weakly at that, and the president continued: “I do say this: When I was on the ticket — when I ran, we won everything. When I don’t run, people don't show up to vote. If I could get my voters to get out to vote… we’d win in a landslide.”

People are gonna show up and vote in midterms....

Republicans tho...

Go on, say 'but the Dems/the libs'.

Out yourselves as shitbrained traitors sowing discourse while fucking fascists continue to shout about their fascist plans.

So many here are cooked in the brain. You have a fucking signposted enemy right in front of you all.

This is what happens before the purges.

If there was any justice at all in the world, donnie and all of his accomplices would be frog-marched to prison to await their trials.

[–] NathanRanch@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe it's time we did something about the president.

We need a word for people fabricating allegations. Snitch implies they are correct in their allegations.

This is not testilying, what is the word for fabricating scandals as such? Maybe we need to make a new word.

There's strong circumstantial evidence that Trump was a rat for SDNY in the 80s. And, since Trump regards himself as a model of human excellence worthy of emulation in every respect, it's no surprise that he's now promoting snitches.

[–] somethingsnappy@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

The sheer volume of reports of Dumps fraud will be hilarious.
