its because skeletons stick around after people die. no one saw a nervous system outside of a body until relatively recently

Relatively meaning the classical period at the latest but yes, and also it just takes way more effort to seperate soft tissue

Black death and associated social changes.

Can an art history major chime in here?

It's November 10th now. There is a circulatory system walking through the kitchen...

To be completely fair, I don't think it matters. Skeleton, nervous system, fleshy muscle, organs; if it's coming at you without it first being inside a person, that's going to be a little bit scary.

I don't think it's less scary if it's coming at me without first being inside a person.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Y'know, fair point. Lol

You're just a skeleton, nervous system, muscles, and organs pretending to be a person by wearing a skin trench coat.

[–] Apeman42@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

The skin trench coat by itself would also be pretty terrifying, tbh. It's an ensemble outfit.

Yes, there's a dress code for me not to be immediately spooked

Is that some kinda remake with Finn Wolfhard or something?

[–] ianhclark510@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 9 hours ago

Whatcha talking about? I’d fold Kyle MacLachlan in half like a cheap camping chair

[–] CancerMancer@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 hours ago

Do not play Discover My Body then lol

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Skeletons are sturdy, with no soft flesh to easily harm.

A bare walking nervous system could be debilitated with a spray bottle.

[–] dontbelievethis@sh.itjust.works 6 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

It would be in constant agony wouldn't it? I mean it is walking on raw nerve, that can't be comfortable.

Basically Carl Brutananadilewski made of eyes.

[–] lath@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Ya kno', that kinda looks like one of them angel depictions, sorta kinda.

Another life S01E03. Alien virus causes a nervous system to crawl out of it's own body
