CBP Enforces Binary Sex Codes and Enhanced US Passport Validation in APIS

Sex Field Requirements: Effective Oct. 14, 2025, CBP systems will only accept “M” (Male) or “F” (Female) in the sex field of APIS transmissions. Any other characters will result in an “X Response-Insufficient Information” error, requiring airlines to resubmit the passenger data with corrected information.

The cruelty is the whole point

Fuck Trump and fuck anyone who has ever supported him.

[–] SereneSadie@lemmy.myserv.one 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Fuck the people who did nothing to oppose the fascists as they screamed and shouted about all the horrors they were itching to do.

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmynsfw.com 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh yeah,

The non-voters are a huge part of the problem

It's fantastic that Australia has compulsory voting

The only people who complain about it are fucking idiots

[–] nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org 4 points 1 month ago

if i could just torrent compulsory voting from yinz that would be great.

who's got ranked choice?

actual democracy might be fun.

[–] PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org 43 points 1 month ago

Deranged shit

[–] MummifiedClient5000@feddit.dk 39 points 1 month ago

Will you look at the time? Is it quarter to Gilead already?

[–] possumparty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 36 points 1 month ago (2 children)

that's why, despite being non binary, i'm not doing the x marker.

[–] smh@slrpnk.net 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yep. When traveling, I want to be as inconspicuous as possible. No X for me, no matter how affirming it would feel.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

i saw at least 1 video/short, about a bunch lgbtq+ were discussing how people were afraid of coming out now, or going back in the closet after partially coming out. over the anti0-trans shit, and it harms the rest of the lgbtq+ community as well. ultimately it goes back to controlling women/pregnancies in general down the line.

[–] nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I almost. I spent a long time trying to figure out if it would make it easier or harder to travel if things took a fascist turn.

Yep. They turned it into a List for discrimination.

Best clapback is X marker for all or remove sex from ID altogether. No more official excuse to violate everyone's HIPPA and ask intrusive questions.

Breeding status has nothing to do with anything I use a civil ID for. It's for proving my age to clubs and stores, and tax jurisdiction for elections and taxes.

[–] nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

For the record, this is bullshit and backpassing for survival sucks and is a violence on us.

[–] smh@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Beg pardon, I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. Could you please define "this" and "backpassing"?

(I'm not sure if you're calling the parent post bullshit for suggesting ID without gender markings, or saying having to revert ID is bullshit. If the later: I totally agree that having to lie on one's ID for safety is hurtful bullshit.)

[–] nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Backpass, transgender community, as in "attempt to visually/socially pass as hospital sex+collonist beauty standards, usually to avoid negative sanctions if whatever scale."

Simmilar to "straight-passing" some queer people might do to stay safe or included at work or fam gatherings.

ex https://transgenderindia.com/transition-transit-passing-legal-gender/

(I wanted to link to a search(whichever engines), but the results are pretty clogged with civil rights trashfires compared to our community factsheets and forums results like 10 yrs ago.)

[–] nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

it sounds deceptively binary, but is a holistic concept: not switching, but cutting off parts to fit into a system that denies medical and historical facts of intersex and transex existance.

Hence violence. Not a lightswitch. Definitely free speech/agency canaries. Again, historically.

[–] smh@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So (if I read you right) the violence isn't done by those that try to pass to avoid negative consequences, but by those that 1. enforce those negative consequences and those that 2. force IDs to fit into their artificial binary.

That makes sense. Thank you for clarifying.

Anecdote that helps me relate to the concept you described: A friend of mine has an extra pinky finger and it used to bother me--like, why hadn't she had a surgical intervention so her hands more closely matched my concept of normal? Then I realized I should be happy that she didn't feel the need to cut off a part of herself to fit in. Like my friend's pinky, trans folk existing isn't hurting anyone.

[–] nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org 2 points 1 month ago

1+2: Yes. Comprehension achieved.

I like your anecdote and think it will help others. Thanks for putting in some effort!

[–] AfricanExpansionist@lemmy.ml 32 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

As an overseas resident, this is quite frightening. Look at the bigger picture. They've recently mentioned invalidating the passports of overseas residents, in regards to Charlie Kirk Facebook posts.

It's maybe not about trans people; it's maybe about invalidating passports by forcing a binary choice and then flagging computer errors.

Imagine if they had some other other binary (or narrowly defined range ) choices on there, like political party or race or religion. At some future point they call all members of some subset "terrorists" and prevent them from leaving.

[–] Mr_WorldlyWiseman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Source on the passport revocations? That's super scary.

[–] AfricanExpansionist@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 month ago

Rubio said it, kind of in passing. Specifically talking about people like me, that he wanted it so that our passports wouldn't be renewed

I only half believe it but now they're fucking with passports.

[–] Zedd_Prophecy@lemmy.world 27 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

It won't stop here - I can see the day they take social security from anyone who has ever registered Democrat.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Lol, they're going to take social security away from everyone.

[–] invertedspear@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No, no, no. To keep the old people voting block, they’ll just keep those damned lazy millennial and further youths from getting it. Remember the boomer motto: “fuck you, got ours.”

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Voting doesn't matter anymore. The US is a dictatorship.

[–] nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org 4 points 1 month ago

The gerrymander likes to feel validated. Like putin's early elections.

[–] Bristlecone@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] village604@adultswim.fan 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You're actually surprised by this?

[–] Bristlecone@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I guess not surprised, just fuckin pissed that we are here and the Hate Party doesn't give a fuck about people

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh, they give lots of fucks about a lot of people. Enough so that they want them all dead.

This shit is just the tip of the iceberg. If you're in the US and you're not CIS and straight, you better start figuring out how to look like you are while you figure out how to escape.

[–] Bristlecone@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Personally I would love to move to many other countries, and I'm in healthcare so I could do it. However my entire family close and extended, along with my wife's family live here. So it's pretty much going to take the gulags to get them out of the country. Of course by then it's too late. Same thing with climate change something about human nature makes it so we can't react to a society wide problem until it's a pressing issue, and beyond repair

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 1 month ago

financially impossible for most people to move. and alot of countries dont make citizenships /visa easy. unless you are part of the PHD/ MD crowd.

[–] AfricanExpansionist@lemmy.ml 16 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

I don't agree with the change, and I don't see why your private parts should determine whether you can travel. However, I'm confused by the headline after reading an article about this

The article says they simply must make a binary choice on documents. But the headline says they are banned from travel.

Can't they simply choose whatever box will get them their passport? Are they actually banned? Is the headline alarmist? (Even in the best case, I am very sure this will cause a lot of hassle for this poor minority group that gets repeatedly treated like a political football)

[–] Macchi_the_Slime@piefed.blahaj.zone 45 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Edit: Specifically this part:

Non-Binary Passport Designations: Passports issued with “X” or other non-binary markers will be rejected by CBP systems, requiring resubmission with valid documentation showing “M” or “F” designation.

They're saying "Your passport gets rejected (meaning you can't travel) unless it has a M or F designation." Meaning they would have to update their passport with the "correct" information. Assuming of course they actually send back the updated passport.

This amounts to a "technically legal" way to confiscate the passports of anyone with a nonbinary gender marker.

[–] nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Reports of Passport Never Came Back type confiscation from trans people over the last few is depressingly searchable. (yes, biden admin too.)

Yeah, I hadn't heard about it happening before Trump took office again but it wouldn't surprise me at all if some of the more ideological rank and file workers started preemptively slow walking some trans people's passports they got their hands on once he won before it became a top down directive.

Either way the Republicans have been doing a ton of boundary pushing with what they can technically legally do since taking control again and this is definitely aimed at being a legal gray zone way to basically invalidate trans people's passports. And of course now we can't even get nation wide injunctions to stop it. Sure is great

[–] SlippiHUD@lemmy.world 35 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It also needs to match your passport, plenty of people still have X on thier passport. So anyone with an X on thier passport can no longer use a plane to leave the country.

[–] cyrano@piefed.social 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You meant the scenario is for American or resident non binary that will not be able to leave the country via plane because their current passport got X?

[–] SlippiHUD@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Correct, if I'm understanding it correctly, I am not a lawyer, it will also prevent you from entering the country via plane. They want M or F only.

I'm also pretty sure preventing a citizen from entering the country violates some international law, but I also could be wrong about that.

[–] cyrano@piefed.social 5 points 1 month ago

Thanks for the clarification. That is how I understand as well. Also not a lawyer.

[–] AfricanExpansionist@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Right gotcha, now the headline makes sense

I guess they'll have to reapply for passports. This is total bullshit, especially when you're messing with overseas residents

[–] nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org 14 points 1 month ago

Yeah maybe we better get ALL the labor and cage camps diffused so there's no where to kettle us to.

Only middle class folks had illusions of fleeing.

Fortunately the u.s. has more open spaces and massive boarders.

Interstate checkpoints will be an issue if power isn't in grounded and minority-safe hands this winter or so. Best to the bailfunds of the folks' home occupations.

[–] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 month ago

Fascism. Smh

[–] TacoButtPlug@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

so glad the DNC chose corporate greed and Israel over representing the working class/s

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ah yes. This is all the Democrats’ fault. 🙄

[–] Soktopraegaeawayok@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I mean, they could at least let them leave the country, right?

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)
  • Cruelty is what the voters want.
  • Slaves are what most c-levels want.
  • examples are what the politicians want
  • experiment subjects is what biotech companies want.
