Approved Bots
I thought those weren't visible without a login already, right?
Reddit will become irrelevant. Long live Lemmy.
Just like Digg.
Time for an exodus.
This is my first comment on here as I just joined Lemmy. I want to see random posts about everything. It only seems like I get fed what they think I want and I don't know what are bots anymore. It's getting out of control.
Same brother. Adding my comment under yours to mark the moment!
Reddit? Is that like digg?
In the sense it digged its own grave, yes.
ive been trying to post my experience-first video player on reddit and i can't even post anywhere because everywhere requires i comment NINE TIMES FOR EVERY PERSONAL POST. fuck that man I'm trying to share something i made for free over 3 months I'm not fucking playing social media simp just for the privilege
Yeah, that shit made it really easy to abandon reddit when my account was banned. I briefly attempted to get back on with a new account but none of the communities I liked let you participate without an established account,
Even if it did let you post you would get shadow banned btw. So yeah Reddit is dead basically. Which honestly good riddance.
Lemmy is the best
No ads every few scrolls!
Long life lemmy!
I thought this was already in place since September or so (maybe it's explained in the article somewhere, I only skimmed it through - doesn't really matter tho).
It was fun to see discussion on this on HN, where so many commenters shared the view of leaving reddit for good after lurking became impossible. As one of those people, can't wait for that shithole to burn to the ground. Or even better, become just a steaming pile of botfest.
Yeah it's been in place for some time. For those increasingly rare moments when a search lands on reddit, uBlock's annoyances filter still blocks the login popup.

It's crapitalism.
I only access Reddit (and Lemmy) through RSS so when they nuke that in two weeks, I'll be gone, too.
My RSS feed already stopped sending me Reddit posts. Last ones were about 17 days ago. Ridiculous.
Good!
Maybe NOW people will start joining Lemmy
Even though they require login to view nsfw subs, I found nsfw multireddits work without login, and they default to the old.reddit layout. Please keep this as a secret haha
Or get off Reddit and join FediNSFW.
I think they are getting off.
There is already a lot of fedisNSFW content on my All -feed here in lemmy, but the specific content that I like is only in reddit
That’s fair and understandable. I’ve got a few niche ones myself. Maybe think about pulling some of your fave vids and posting in FediNSFW anyway? Might find others who are into it as well and it’ll grow!
I'd have to make a community for that stuff, and honestly i'm not that interested in downloading a bunch of stuff on my computer haha but yea at some point I'll have to contribute somehow
They permanently ban everyone anyway
I'm still waiting, reddit, why are you still accessible publicly? Second thoughts, spez? Seems this is taking longer than other announcements, like when they locked old.reddit behind a login. I saw the login prompt pop up on desktop once, and never again after that.
Reddit has repeatedly proved that they do not care about their users, regardless of what they say. No one who has left is eager to get back, they are only trying to catch new users which other social networks are much more effective at.
It also allows us to protect access to Reddit’s extremely valuable corpus of data
That's the real problem, people have to stop giving Reddit their data to monetize before they inevitable kick them to the curve and remove any control they had over their own data.
The trick is that when you get booted, do NOT close out your account. Start manually deleting and when you get to the years prior posts and can't go any further because you've hit the archived content wall.. leave the site for a few months or so, keeping your login active.
Just wait.
It's like facebook, in that when you show up after a time it will dig up your most current post to put up on your profile page.. the system is designed to show you your own shit to keep you engaged, so it will unarchive your older content to bring it up. I'm now three years deep into my posting history on old.reddit and I delete a few pages worth every week. When I get to the end of this current batch and can't go any further back.. I'll just wait. I don't even logout.
Patience is the key esp. if you'd been on the site for a super long time (I had 15 years..)
Rinse and repeat until it is all gone.
Holy crap they don't let you see your old posts anymore? The only reason I didn't delete them after I left was because I thought it would be a fun archive to see stuff I wrote years ago sometimes. Such a garbage website.
The worst thing is, they could for sure have been profitable enough to keep things rolling and pay them handsomely, but of course they had to IPO and chase the eternal growth.
Nope.
Seems to be if you've been a steady, daily poster, you only get to tunnel back a year before you hit the post limit.
The older posts are archived and you can no longer reach them via one's profile page.
This happened about the time the IPO rolled out and few people noticed it.
As I'm big on being patient on these things, and also sorta noticed how the other social media platforms work, (facebook was my main teacher) it made sense to wait and see what rolled out instead of getting what I could then saying "fuck it" and deleting the account.
Glad I was patient as once I saw it, the penny dropped. Facebook does the same thing in that as you delete your comments from your home page, it dips into your older posts to pull up stuff you'd put up years ago.. First on your own page, then on friends pages. (It's the latter comments that people make which keeps them in facebook's system even if they delete their account.)
It's built to positively affirm your presence on the site, so if you get all your current stuff deleted and maintain the account it WILL crack open the archived posts so you can get to them.
I was honestly pleasantly surprised when I saw this, and instantly understood how to work it.
Seems like everyone's copied facebook in that aspect. Constant engagement starting with YOU, right?
Easy peasy once you understand how it rolls.
Reddit is a haven for spam, rife with bots and scammers, and it often hands over control to fraudsters.
This will of course fix none of those issues.
reddit is moving to "a bot-only experiment"
ahh so a FACEBOOK clone
“During October, we have seen that search traffic has dropped by more than 1 million referrals on average per week. If this rate of decline continues, current trends would suggest that total DAUqs [or daily active unique users] could fall in Q4, by a low-double-digit percentage from our current base of 130 million DAUqs,” Huffman wrote.
Weird that not allowing people to use your site would lower the number of people using your site.
