Legal challenges to Donald Trump’s proposed memorial arch are mounting even as its construction is imminent

The legal challenges to Donald Trump’s proposed memorial arch are mounting, with the District of Columbia and Virginia suing in federal court on Saturday as the administration says construction could begin as early as next week.

There are now three lawsuits calling for a halt to potential work on a monument that would rise 250ft (76 meters) on a patch of grass off the bridge that spans the Potomac River, connecting the city with the Arlington national cemetery. That would make the arch 100ft taller (30 meters) than the Statue of Liberty is from its base to the top of the torch.

The US district judge Tanya Chutkan is already considering issuing an order to halt the project until the original lawsuit against the Trump administration by three Vietnam war veterans and an architectural historian is resolved. She held a hearing on Friday but did not immediately act, though she said she would move expeditiously.

It's getting torn down on the day after Inauguration Day anyway. At least some workers will make a paycheck building it, and destroying it. Economic stimulation.

Why the fuck does he keep grabbing the arch that way?

[–] fox2263@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

It’s like grabbing a teen by the pussy

I just don’t understand how and why the fuck all of this keeps happening. They’re treating him like a make-a-wish kid and making all of his ridiculous wants and desires come true. It’s mind boggling, I just don’t understand how this shit keeps getting green lit

Because they just fire anyone that doesn't approve stuff. Eventually they'll get someone that says yes.

How the god damned fuck are they paying for it?

I looked it up. No fucking way this falls under the scope of the National Endowment for Humanities’ scope. $15 mil must be their budget for years.

This will cost $150 million by the time it's finished.

Probably soliciting "donations" from people and companies with business before this administration.

Well, yeah, they do that, but they KEEP that money. This will be paid for by the tax payers, 10 times the actual cost, with any surplus going to Trump's Library Fund.

BTW, Trump's Library should be at Maralago (after it, and his entire fortune, is confiscated by the government), and it should be called the Donald J Trump Museum of Political Corruption, with 90% of the exhibits dedicated to him. By law, it will be the only thing allowed to be named after Donald Trump, except for sewage treatment plants.

Money collected from visitors, should be directed to Immigration issues, helping new immigrants with legal problems, language education, citizenship classes, etc.
