In nearly 50 years I’ve never been anywhere else close to a knife fight, I’m also not a moron.

The situation I’m talking about is home defense and yes, I have dogs, I live in one of the safest areas of my state and I do have self defense plans if anything does happen. Guns are not part of that strategy because I have kids in the house, and despite them being trained, I still am not going to keep one around just so that I can ‘feel’ safer.

You do you, I’m not going to stop you, even if I were anti-gun, the ship sailed long before I was born in this country. So instead, since they are a reality in the US, let’s be smart about them and recognize that individual situations are different for each of us.

Yeah, I’m not anti-gun, I just follow the stats. Multiple children in the house and they are more clever than I am.

I’m still not willing to get one. I am statistically safer without one in the house. I do have a couple large dogs, I collect knives and I have collapsible batons stashed in key locations.

Maybe once the kids are out of the house.

What are you talking about, I’ll bet her brow furrows harder than ever. Thats a true consequence in these united states if I’ve ever heard one.

I admit, it almost worked on me. I was a little scared to go, and I left my phone and identifying information at home. I also brought a 360 degree camera in case shit happened, figured I’d have a better chance of getting it on camera.

But instead it was a massive party, just fun people, hilarious signs and a truly pleasant and enjoyable walk through the city. It really helped break some of my cynicism; some, not all.

I can’t wait for the next one.

Thank you for the levity.

I tried that, they cut me off.

Something I couldn’t help but notice today. I work from home most days at my current job, but I’m in the office this week. I’m the sort of person who always looks strangers in the eye and says hello, or just a smile and nod.. today as I walked through the buildings to get lunch, not one single person acknowledged me. I almost always get at least a few responses or at least a smile. Today, nothing, every single person stared at the floor, or intentionally looked away when I made eye contact.

I get that there are folks uncomfortable with such interactions, and so I am not offended or upset if I don’t get a response, but despite being surrounded by people, I don’t remember feeling more alone.

Just wanted to share, seems relevant.

Yeah, could be. I still have some old stuff though (my grandpas shirt which has got to be 50 years old). I don’t wear it much, but I still wash it when I do..

Yeah, cold for everything except whites (they get warm plus bleach). Else these days I do still try to separate them into dark and light colors. Jeans do still fade but it doesn’t transfer to the rest.

It must be detergent or washers are easier on clothes. Growing up, all my clothes eventually became the same dirty pink color when I’d wash colors together. These days I just dump everything in and toss in some laundry soap, maybe some softener if we have it around, and I still have clothes that are 20 years old and in regular rotation. Colorful as always.

They will all be rich and in positions of power. This kind of shit gets celebrated in this country. Once things die down the outrage machine will kick in and they will say that private, out of context conversations don’t matter, that is unless the can come up with a barely plausible story that it was all fabricated (they are already trying to say it was AI).

It won’t matter that it’s transparent and obvious to everyone. Most people don’t pay enough attention and will forget all about it. It will seem like a distant memory and the “reasonable” people will lecture us about the necessity of forgiveness.

Then they will be caught with an underaged intern or some shit and nothing will come of it since they are just public people with pressures on them that we just can’t understand.

Yeah, I’m a little cynical.
