Isn’t there a documentary flat earthers filmed in which they debunked their own beliefs?
One supposed story is that people committing voter fraud, kidnapped him. As the story goes, people would dress others up in costumes and parade them around the city to cast illegal votes. So for Poe, he is said to have been dressed up in woman’s clothes and given liquor to subdue him. Eventually during the night he died.
