That would have been the ideal, yes. Also acceptable: not being lazy and using that as a crutch for 30 freaking years.

I mean anything's possible, but when did the government start talking about this pipeline and when was the referendum announced? Separation or not, we've needed to reduce our dependence on the US since the start of Trump 2.0. We actually should have started before that.

Which might be the only reason I check them out again. Are they doing it on the radio too? That would be useful for me if I ever decide to attend a Charge game in-person. Not a cable subscriber and last I checked YouTube was blacked out if you're in Canada so I haven't checked them out as much as I'd like to. Might fix that.

I think it very much depends on your perspective, and also how old you are. Keep in mind I was 25 when the financial crisis hit. There really hasn't been a decade in my adult life where there hasn't been a once-in-a-lifetime event (I turned 18 and 9/11 hit). If I'm gonna wake up tomorrow with a chip on my shoulder, I have evidence. And if I let all of that shit define me, that chip on my shoulder's gonna be Ontario-sized.

Waitasec. When did he explicitly advocate for separation? He advocated for more autonomy, which is not unprecedented (see also: Quebec), but I've always seen him as pushing for more freedom within confederation, not freedom from confederation. Happy to be corrected.

I mean, sometimes cheapest wins. As long as what you're walking out with is Canadian or at least not American. Personally my other options are Loblaws and Metro, and between the three of them milk is usually cheaper at Walmart, just as an example. And yes, I buy a Canadian brand.

I've seen Schitts Creek and Kim's Convenience. They didn't keep my interest.

It's more I'm disappointed in the quality of the Canadian shows. But also, watching American TV on a Canadian platform is still buying Canadian. Bell already paid the Americans for the rights.

Science fiction, medical/police/similar dramas, the occasional sitcom, etc. The Big Bang Theory, for example, is not on CBC. Star Trek is not on CBC. The Expanse didn't originally run and currently doesn't rerun on CBC. Chicago PD/Fire/Med isn't on CBC. Grey's Anatomy isn't on CBC. Even ER isn't on CBC. I'm sure they have original Canadian content that tries to be similar, but if you have to literally flip through their catalogue to try to find a show that checks off vaguely similar boxes, that's most of the problem. Most of the shows I listed are on Netflix, Prime or Crave. Or if you're strictly buying Canadian, Crave.

I don't know about that. They seem more worried about not being able to sell to us than not being able to buy from us.

Eh. Personally I only ever consistently watched CBC for Hockey Night in Canada, and they kinda lost that.

I mean, it has never been legal, in Canada, to beat the shit out of anyone, regardless your opinion of that person. I'd like to see a source that says otherwise. It has never even been legal to do that in Germany, and they gave birth to the damn things.

Luigi Mangione is an excellent example, the weeks following him allegedly shooting that Insurance CEO, and all kinds of people were approved for things that would have been denied otherwise. That is a microcosm of how change actually happens.

You're gonna need a source for this, I'm afraid. All I can find is vague mumblings about more transparency after it happened. Regardless, are you really bringing an example from the country where guns are the answer to everything into a country where guns are considered evil and should be banned? BTW the ban is supported by the left.

Disclaimer: I am neither left, right nor centre and in fact despise labels like that. But the folks who generally call themselves left seem proud of that fact so for the purposes of this discussion, those folks are who I mean.
