Secret memos obtained by The New York Times illuminate the origins of the court’s now-routine “shadow docket” rulings on presidential power.

The whole shift to rulings with big impact and no reasoning was because the Republicans desperately wanted to stop climate regulations:

By a 5-to-4 vote along partisan lines, the order halted President Barack Obama’s Clean Power Plan, his signature environmental policy. They acted before any other court had addressed the plan’s lawfulness. The decision consisted of only legal boilerplate, without a word of reasoning.

The whole thing is absolutely insane:

Even as they debated the Obama plan’s possible burden on the power industry, in the entire chain of correspondence obtained by The Times, not a single justice, conservative or liberal, mentioned the dangers of a warming planet as one of the possible harms the court should consider.

Even though those harms cost far more than Obama's Clean Power Plan did — it would have on net saved money.

On multiple occasions in the past year, members of his security detail had difficulty waking Patel because he was seemingly intoxicated, according to information supplied to Justice Department and White House officials. A request for “breaching equipment”—normally used by SWAT and hostage-rescue teams to quickly gain entry into buildings—was made last year because Patel had been unreachable behind locked doors, according to multiple people familiar with the request.

Key thing in this article is that the US military is failing to feed naval crews adequately. Meals look like this now

Very different from how enlisted sailors are usually fed, and an indicator that the US is likely unable to adequately support any kind of war

The move was a victory for a Chilean company that wants to build a copper and nickel mine, which environmentalists say could devastate fragile lakes and forests.

Also, a statement from EarthJustice

Sorry, but anything big gets penetrated by an informer. You can't do big group chats and actually plan attacks like that and not end up in prison.

The problem Green and other representatives have is that they're in the minority. This means they can't do much more than make noise.

What they can potentially do is have the Senate shut down other parts of the government in protest.

ICE is already funded for years to come; it will take an affirmative vote to remove that money, and you can't do that when in the minority.

It doesn't matter how loudly they yell if the press doesn't cover them. They're yelling. You just aren't where you can see it.

I see a lot of Democrats openly talking about how mad they are. There's a pretty extensive discussion about not voting for funding for ICE in Congress, and an active effort to get enough votes to impeach Kristi Noem.

There are also a bunch of Democrats calling for nonviolent resistance because they recognize that making the Insurrection Act invocation look ridiculous when it comes will be strategically useful.

A few are also just out of it — they're depending on the New York Times to tell them what's going on, and that doesn't work.

Yeah, they're uniquely empowered to sue on behalf of the constituents they represent, so they can do a lot more than most other elected officials.

The problem is that the US is still place where people who advocate violence for leftist reasons can be tossed in prison. So, no, it's not a good idea to allow people to post explicit, realistic, actionable calls for violence in public places.

Talk about it in your 4-person Signal chat with people you trust.

There's a difference between being right-wing and using actual Nazi content on a routine basis. They crossed that line.

Its an unsigned temporary order from the Eighth Circuit appeals court

Yeah, ICE is doing things like kidnapping 5 year olds walking home from kindergarten without telling their parents to try and incite riots so they can justify bringing in paratroopers to conduct a massacre

I suspect a third or more of the US military will refuse to carry out massacres of light-skinned citizens.

I don't expect the same of ICE

The US military is a fair bit less Nazi than ICE, which has increased greatly in size over the last few months while using Nazi materials as part of their recruitment pitch
