After a year focused on immigrants here illegally, the Trump administration is now making it harder for legal migrants to stay in the country. It is a risky pivot.

It is was always about the racism, not the legality

 

House Republican leaders abruptly scrapped a planned vote on a measure to direct President Trump to end the conflict or win authorization for it, amid party defections and absences.

Congress is now in recess so they won't have to vote on it for rather a while

 

I'll note that new consumer appliances shifted away from these a while back. So the cost benefit isn't for consumers; it's for corporations which have large existing systems which are leaking.

 

Aid cuts by the Trump administration have shut down crucial disease surveillance networks and medical supply chains in East Africa.

Uncontained epidemics don't stay put

About 1/3 of the time judicial decisions like this impact behavior. It's meaningful, if not always sufficient

Look at the nasal mist vaccines for your kid. Slightly less protection, but no needle. And you can get them by mail order and administer at home so that you don't need to organize an outing around the vaccine

The problem is that it's 90% stories that don't really lend themselves to partisan outcomes. Their fascism comes out only once in a while, when Sulzberger thinks it's important.

Useful in NY where 3rd party cross endorsement is printed on the ballot. Limited impact elsewhere unless you've got a media microphone

The reality of a first-past-the-post system is that it is far easier to co-opt an existing party than to launch a new one. The latter approach usually means handing power to the people you dislike the most
