I'm hearing the shooter had a trans girlfriend from a right wing friend of mine, but I can't find proof, does anyone know what he's talking about?

[–] Estiar@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 days ago

There's going to be an incredible amount of transphobia because they can do it. The right is currently obsessed with transgender people committing violence even though it doesn't happen anywhere near the rates of their cisgender counterparts.

Anyway, trans people had nothing to do with this but the right wing is still trying to blame it on them because they can

[–] drhodl@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Why don't you ask your right wing friend wtf he's talking about??

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I tried, he just sent me links to Fox News and twitter posts, nothing reliable or substantial... When I tried looking it up on my own I found New York Post drivel

[–] drhodl@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

So your friend is just repeating 'drivel" then ? I'm surprised he didn't tell you to do your own due diligence. I bet he won't be graceful if you call him out on it, but I think you should tbh.

He had a trans roommate, but it hasn't been verified that they were in a relationship. In fact, it might not even be verified that they're trans. It's too early to believe this stuff.

[–] Lazylazycat@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's also not been verified that they're trans, has it?!

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

It hasn't. As far as I know.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

From what I've heard it was actually his landlord, not his lover.

[–] philosloppy@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

I like how it's a big deal that this guy is allegedly dating a trans woman because it's convenient to the narrative but when alex jones accidentally broadcasted his trans porn search to thousands of viewers on infowars, none of these folks even knew about it.

Some marking on the bullet got around, I think it was TRN but that's the manufacturer of the bullet if it's accurate. Apparently that is, I willI will say cause there's been so much crap about this douche being killed it's muddying any real info. Also read that the manufacturer doesn't make bullets for that caliber (30 odd 6? For a hunting rifle, I don't know guns well but know it's a hunting type still) so I really dunno and I did not look into that so need to check that out if it's important to the story. I only saw the the manufacturer didn't make that caliber from a single comment but read many with the bullet marking and one mentioned the pic going around is a 9mm.

Don't take my word for this Ive just been reading about the story, but it's what I've gleened from them all.

It appears he was just a more extreme right wing person than even the deceased is and that provoked him into action. Seems likely from due to how easily they're (extreme right wing) provoked in general.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Just a slight correction, it's "thirty ought six" or "30-06" where thirty is the caliber(diameter of projectile) and ought six is the year the military adopted it. Not that that makes much difference, I'm just a nerd.

[–] orbitz@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I appreciate the correction I always heard odd not ought but probably cause I heard it much, much younger heh. Grew up in a small town in Canada so was just thinking how I heard it (seriously all these years heard 30 odd 6 in my memory), maybe our accent too. Have a good one, appreciate the knowledge! Always a good day when you learn something new, doesn't happen as often these days.

[–] bigfondue@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

It's actually aught, it's a word for zero

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 3 points 3 days ago

You're pretty metal homie 🤘

We have specific wording. The most relevant is, "Notices Bulge. OwO What is this?"

That has been reported by the governor of Utah, and Gov. Cox is actually pretty hesitant to repeat nonsense, unlike other governors in very red states. He actually seems to care a bit about trans people, at least trans kids, and I wonder if maybe he has someone in his family who is trans.

I hope that helps. If you want to find the others, just look up "Kirk casings messages" on whatever media source you trust.

[–] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I highly doubt that, that sounds like something conservative media would make up and people would repeat far too much.

Here's the relevant casing message:

Notices Bulge. OwO What is this?

It's possible he's talking about personal experience, it's also possible he's just spreading hate. We don't know which it is, and we probable won't until the investigation gets further along.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I googled "Kirk Shooter Trans Girlfriend", but the only media I could find reporting it were Fox News and New York Post, and the latter admitted the person in question was neither trans nor the shooter's lover, just that they were "Cooperating with the FBI"

The NYP was especially vile as it just went on about how great of a guy Kirk was, paradoxically claiming Kirk was practicing love and kindness by being openly transphobic. How Orwellian.

[–] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Eh, I wouldn't call it Orwellian. It's pretty well l own that Fox News isn't really news (local fox news channels are, just not the national "Fox News," which is "news entertainment"). Likewise, the NYP is pretty awful and slanted.

It would be Orwellian if all the major networks were saying the same, wrong thing.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I meant Orwellian in that they claimed one thing (Charlie Kirk is loving and caring) and their example was the exact opposite (Charlie Kirk hating transpeople)... War Is Peace and all that

Ah okay.

I think of "Orwellian" as generally meaning coordinated surveillance, disinformation, propaganda, and doublethink (denying truth), typically from a government agency or coordination of multiple powerful non-government entities (e.g. social media groups). As in, something similar to what Big Brother did in 1984 by controlling information and spying on the people.

What you described sounds more like doublespeak, or changing the meaning of words, though I haven't read the article you mentioned.

[–] sobchak@programming.dev 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I've heard it's a 10 year old meme from furry communities that's just about bulges from erections in general, not really a gender/trans thing.

And do you expect your average journalist to know that? And is it possible it could have multiple meanings, given context?
