Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
- Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
- No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Cool, go try living there. But maybe visit the Canada comms first to find out how expensive it is there. Cuz you're gonna be in for a big sticker shock! lol
Good point; I already live here. Some places are more expensive than others, but you can expect San Fransisco-style prices for things, not Cleveland-style prices.

Am Canadian, can confirm. Can’t exactly compare to American prices since I’m not American and also haven’t visited in years, but it is very expensive to live here, at least in any medium or large city. Smaller towns aren’t too bad for housing costs, but then grocery and gas prices go up. There’s places that are reasonable in certain aspects but then they’re very expensive in others. I’ve got family all across the country, literally coast to coast and north to south. West coast of BC to east coast of Newfoundland, northern stretches of Iqaluit to southern tip of Ontario and everywhere in between, and no one has a low cost of living all around. I’m sure there’s places cheaper than something like NYC or LA or something but overall I’d guess Canada is probably more expensive than most of the US.

I am seeing more and more posts talking about how terrible the US is, but most of the nicer places people want to go to, Norway, Canada, England, etc, are actually more expensive than the US and hard to live in full-time if they have no family there. Which I guess doesn't really matter, because most people saying they will move from the US, don't. And those that do, will find out real fast. lol
Not to mention the US is huge, but most of Lemmy seems to live in big cities. The US has lots of rural towns where cost of living is low. But then Lemmy will cry that they'd be bored. So... lmao
I live in a small very affordable town, but since it's small, there are no "No Kings" rallies or meetups where people wear vegan clothes and talk about how much capitalism sucks, so most of Lemmy would hate it. People in my own, work, go to the park and eat ice cream after work, and have bbq's on the weekend and hang out on porches and talk. No driveby shootings, no drugs, etc. Lemmy doesn't want people to know that this is actually how most of the US is. lol

Yeah I lived in a small town for a while too. My friend worked as a PCA taking care of disabled adults in a care home. When he came out as trans, he got death threats and hit by cars multiple times while biking - and as someone who was stealth and also biked, those were absolutely murder attempts.
Also most small towns in the US have meth problems. It's easier to ignore, but it's still rampant.
