I thought voting blue was gonna fix this?

Were you in a coma 2020 - 22 maybe?

[–] edible_funk@sh.itjust.works 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

People have to actually vote blue first.

[–] mattyroses@lemmy.today -2 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Did you miss out on 2020 or something?

[–] edible_funk@sh.itjust.works 5 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah. Republicans held enough power to obstruct the government like they do, and you fell for them blaming Dems like you do.

[–] mattyroses@lemmy.today -1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

People have to actually vote blue first.

Democrats won the Presidency and both houses in 2020. So obviously people did vote blue.

Your response is to then say that doesn't matter, and we can't blame the poor Dems for that.

Unless your point is to state there's no point to voting for the Democrats, but you think they mean well, you're contradicting yourself.

[–] edible_funk@sh.itjust.works 2 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

So you're gonna pretend the republican party isn't actively obstructive to the point the only way the Democratic party platform passes legislation is with a supermajority while asking why they weren't able to do something they didn't have the numbers to do in the first place. Bad faith or ignorance, your argument is built on a false premise.

Hey my little 7th grade civics students, how many votes would removing the filibuster require?

the only way the Democratic party platform passes legislation is with a supermajority

So again, your argument is that voting for Democrats is a waste of time? Because that's what you keep saying here.

[–] edible_funk@sh.itjust.works 0 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

You just keep doubling down on your social media understanding of politics don't you?

[–] mattyroses@lemmy.today 2 points 16 hours ago

You mean that 50 votes plus VP was enough to remove the filibuster, had the Democrats wanted to?

I keep doubling down on facts. I'm sorry that those are not supporting your fantasy world where you, the enlightened centrist, are proven right.

How much of a mandate was blue given in 2020-22? 50+1 in the senate, when 50 republicans opposed green energy and corporate reform, and 1 dem opposed green energy, and 1 dem opposed corporate reform?

Imagine if there were just 1 or 2 more blue senators. Elections matter.

[–] mattyroses@lemmy.today 4 points 17 hours ago

If your claim that that electing the Democrats did nothing, I don't disagree with you.

Imagine if there were just 1 or 2 more blue senators.

I don't have to imagine it - we saw it in 2008. We also saw the same results from the Democrats then, with the same rotating villain play to pretend they had no power. Only difference was it was Lieberman instead of Manchin.

[–] Alwaysnownevernotme@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

There would be one or two more rotating villans.
