The Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act to allow racially based gerrymandering if they don’t outright say it’s racially based.

And now liberals are blaming progressives and leftists, as usual.

What, you expect them to do something, or like not vote for the massive increase in "defense" spending?

[–] Alaknar@sopuli.xyz 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Didn't they vote against that? Which doesn't matter one bit since Republicans have both Congress and Senate, so they can do whatever the fuck they want?

[–] mattyroses@lemmy.today 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Huh, that's weird - because when the Democrats had both houses, we were told there's nothing they can do. THE PARLIMENTARIAN didn't allow it.

[–] Alaknar@sopuli.xyz 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

The who?

I'm not from the US so I don't know the specifics of the process.

You shouldn't know it.

When Biden and the Dems controlled the government, they ran out of excuses not to raise the minimum wage. So they split the bills that leadership wanted from that.

Then, they had an office nobody had ever heard about before (the parlimentarian) declare that they couldn't do that in reconciliation. It's a nonsense office, and when the GOP faced that they fired the Parlimentarian. The Democrats, of course, threw up their hands. The minimum wage was not raised.

Ah, I get it. You seem to be confused about the Democrats.

Why would they increase the minimum wage if that goes against their main corporate sponsors?

Like... People need to learn some nuance. No, the Dems are super fucking far from perfect, they do what corpos tell them to do, and their primary speciality is doing literally nothing... BUT at least they don't assault the foundations of US democracy, don't steal anything that's not nailed down, don't create diplomatic catastrophes every Monday, and don't threaten to nuke their allies. They also, more often than not, vote against brain-dead or dangerous ideas of the Republicans.

That being said - change is coming. Voters are showing that they want more left-leaning, pro-active representatives, not dead shrimps like Schumer. Hence why we get people like Mamdani elected.

how do voters show that?

It's rhetorical - the answer is by not voting for centrist Dems.
