Shit on tankies all you want, have fun man... hell, I'll join ya. That's not my point. Instance feuds/bashing is tiresome and groupthink is dangerous. That's it, that's my point.
Edit: Because it seems I have to clarify; not every ml user is a tankie. Kinda like (in the US) not every republican is MAGA? Do y'all hear me at all, or are individual users gonna keep separately proving the exact point I'm making? It's tiresome, idk what else to say
Unfortunately the lemme admins tend to hang out on ML and they kind of do set the tone of the instance. If you just block that one instance the amount of tankies you have to deal with drastically decreases. If some innocent people get swept up in that block well oh well. It's hardly the end of the world.
The tones are real, but the generalizations are too general to be accurate. I personally don't have to block to ignore someone, and worst case I just tag them. Everyone's opinion has merit if anger isn't involved. It keeps me out an echo chamber if I'm forced to critically evaluate people's views
I have no idea what that's supposed to mean. The generalisations are the point, the tankies grouped together because everywhere else they are challenged. Lemmy only exist because they got kicked off Reddit for being asshats.
If anger wasn't involved tankies wouldn't exist. They don't operate on logic, they operate on emotion. That's like saying that Genghis Khan was ok, as long as you ignore the murdering.
I feel like maybe you haven't really interacted with them very much. I'll give you an example of an interaction with them.
You: it would be really nice of the Russians if they could just stop invading other countries.
Them: Banned
∆ but much more aggressively and much more rudely
Ok, you're right. That entire instance is tankie garbage
I understand your sentiment, but give it enough time and you'll find yourself randomly banned from a bunch of ml communities because you dared to criticize China. When DarkFuture described them as abrasive they were practicing restraint.
They're so hostile. And just mean. They don't tolerate non-ml opinions in their own space. They'll hurl insults at you then ban you.
Idk, I've only been temp banned once from a community and I don't even remember what instance it was... I just meant what I said with no hate. If it's their space, I just respect it or ignore it. Ain't worth my time feeding trolls by being angry. Like I said originally, block or ignore (or engage as kindly as possible within their space)
I'm just tired of the tribal shit, we all have opinions and it's ok. An instance is not representative of a person's views, so why add fuel to any nazi/tankie fire by generalizing a group? It ain't worth it and it's exhausting to keep hearing about it. Especially on a random post about bullshit. It's unnecessary in my opinion, because hate begets hate... just cut that shit out at the pass and move on if it bothers you. I tag or mute, never downvote or block... just how I see it I guess
Not all opinions are ok.
Their mindset delivered Donald Trump to us. And they're real assholes about it. And I'm not sure if you've been awake for the last decade, but it is beyond time to squash any mindset that results in Donald Trump.
When I interact with MOST .ml users I get a very similar vibe to interacting with Trump supporters. And I have exactly zero tolerance left for that shitfuckery. I don't care if everyone is entitled to an opinion. They're not entitled to me being nice to them for the opinion they hold, especially after the way they treat others.
Because enough of that group has become problematic. To the point that users across all other instances are pointing it out.
That mindset doesn't solve problems. Look, you may not be gullible, but others are. New, young users join Lemmy every day. If they don't see pushback to .ml user's shitty behavior and even shittier opinions, then they may very well adopt that behavior and those opinions. If I can take 7 seconds to type out a comment in opposition to their bullshit so that young impressionable minds can see an opposing stance instead of just adopting tankie standards....then I'm going to do that.
The general mistake you're making is assuming all opinions are ok and valuable. They are not.
