Girls have a lower interest in those fields because they're socialised differently than boys. They grow up with different priorities. Feminists have definitely argued for less gender conditioning in childhood, and that would result in more women doing your job. So I think feminists are arguing for more people to do your job, just indirectly.

Let Me ask you something: why did you get into this line of work? What made you want to get an apprenticeship, and keep coming back even though it was hard and dangerous?

While different socialisation explains some of these gaps, it doesn't seem to explain all of them. For example, in overall more equal societies, the gap in some industries increases, suggesting that some of the effect is quite a free choice.

I have some methodological concerns. Link the study and I'll take a look if My intuition is guiding Me true.

i got into the trade because it was the most lucrative career option available to me, and I enjoyed it.

i continued and completed my apprenticeship because the physical danger appealed to me. it made my heart skip a beat and my adrenaline surge every time I narrowly avoided death. i sought out that adrenaline rush. women are not as inclined to pursue adrenaline and physical danger

I excelled in the trade because of my ability to accept my lack of competence, my competitive nature, my analytical tendencies, and my superior physical strength/agility. the latter 3 of these traits are more pronounced in males

like I said, the 2 women I know in the trade were exceptional. they displayed superior logical competence, spatial awareness, analysis, and were competitive in physical strength. these women are relatively rare compared to men.

trades are not biased towards men, it's just that men are biologically more likely to possess the traits necessary to excel in them

Oh man, you generalize like a motherfucker. You seem to have been exposed to a very small sample of people from which to draw conclusions

men dominate women physically in EVERY possible category

name one woman that is stronger/fasted

I agree with you about the physical strength. But wanting to get that bag, prove yourself, and put yourself in danger aren't biological traits. They're cultural values. Some species in nature have a lot of difference between males and females, and humans aren't one of them.

We associate those traits with men because of the history of our culture. We teach those values to boys because it's tradition, and it's what we expect of men. Boys grow up honing these traits, and become driven, reckless, ambitious men. It's a self-reinforcing cycle.

I ain't saying there's anything wrong with you having those values. I can see they make you happy. The problem is that society teaches kids to feel differently about these things based on their genitals, before they have a chance to decide who they are for themselves. For every guy like you, who turns out to like these "macho" values and flourish in them, there's another guy who doesn't fit the masculine ideal and has self esteem issues about it. And there's a gal who never gets a chance to figure out if she might be like you. So only the most driven, most exceptional women bother to try. I bet if we taught little girls to like danger and money and working to improve themselves, there would be a lot more average girls at your workplace, just like all those average guys. People who do... just okay, at the job. But who are happy.

I'm trans, and I grew up being told I was a boy. So I got that masculine programming that most boys get. Subtle, invisible stuff. We got told to care about competitive sports. We played with Hot Wheels and Tonka trucks. The TV shows marketed to us were about punching bad guys. We got told to pick a career based on how much money it would make us. The cis girls didn't get that so much.

There are parts of that I still resonate with and I'm glad I learned them as a kid. And there are parts that just completely are not Me. I wish the kids growing up today get a more equal childhood than we did. Let them ALL get exposed to all the things we value, and let them choose for themselves which things suit their souls.

[–] BloodMuffin@lemmy.ca 1 points 8 minutes ago

as a trans male, you are biologically a male. you are transitioning into a woman, which I will never argue against. the difference is between male/female and woman/women. you will never be a male. males are genetically XY. you are XX AND you will never be able to change that. you can be a woman. I'll accept you as a woman, but never a female

you're basing your opinion on your very limited experience. you're a female man. you were born a female that identified as a man, so you transitioned your GENDER to a man. i fully support your decision, and I will fight to the my death for your fight for your to express your gender expression. however you have ZERO comprehension of what it means to being a man.

I'm bisexual, I'd say about 10% homosexual; I have a strong emotional attraction towards men, but zero interest in them sexually, and I don't want to see them naked. a nude penis makes me flaccid. i have no idea of your position on that scale, but I don't care

you are a child of God, and I love you
