What's even left on lemmy if you block everything left leaning? Might as well not come to this place
There will be no one left
Idk that sounds alright.
HA!
Well, lemmy.world is what remains.
...may I strongly encourage you to join a different instance?
Firstly, I was talking on their behalf.
Secondly even lemmy.world is kinda left leaning
"it's not left unless it's strictly my definition of left"
Lemmy.world's mod/admin team has a very well documented history of being heavily biased in the direction of genocidal Zionists, blatant double standards when it comes to things like ICE (illegal state sponsored terrorism) vs non state sponsored terrorism.
And they're just needlessly petty.
Literally Stamets used to be part of that team, discovered the extent of that bullshit personally... an LW mod had a hissy fit over Canadian terminology and government procedure... and decided to start ban hammering people over it.
Stamets is Canadian, the other mod is not... and Stam tried to explain to that mod that they were mistaken, confused.
They instead doubled down, it blew up into a similar popcorn level event... Stamets left LW, and now he is on this stealth block list.
The LW team have no problem being duplicitous and covert in enforcement over their little fiefdoms, and the defense of their own egos.
Again, I implore you to leave.
Also, no, the actual people that run LW? They're liberals, neoliberals. Liberalism is not leftism. Go do some first year Poli Sci reading if you need an explanation, I'm tired.
I think OP understands there is space to the left of US democrats, and the discourse tends to be “Kinda left” by commonly understood definition.
Also some of us enjoy a lot of non-political content, and World is fine for that.
I don't. I don't think they know that.
I don't think you do either.
Leftism can be cleanly seperated from Liberalism in this way:
Leftists want to abolish capitalism, change it so much that it's not capitalism any more.
Liberals think capitalism is... a good person, but just, misunderstood.
Also, if I just told you that the LW admin/mod team is... consistently defending genociders, and state sponsored terrorism?
And you say... well I am apolitical, so that's fine?
You are not apolitical, you are in fact explcitly fine with those horrible things, you are saying they don't bother you that much.
... there are plenty of non political communities and discussion on... all of the banned instances, many others too.
But no, no, you're fine with the genocide supporting one.
Ok then.
not all leftists oppose capitalism tho
many further left ones (such as myself) do, but some milder leftists dont (many socialists and center-leftists)
Let me start by saying this is is just an observation, not directed specifically at you.
But, this is the issue with left vs right politics. It's not that you're not "left enough" it's that you're practically on different planets arguing which way is West. Both of you orient towards north, and then walk to the left, but you're never going to meet up. And that's because you're not even on the same planet. Your foundations for what basic human rights are is fundamentally different.
A capitalist will say "everyone deserves the house they can afford", while a communist will say "everyone deserves a house."
.world from my observation has been very capitalist, and yeah, that tracks considering it's kinda like the "reddit instance" its comfortable for a lot of people. But I personally would never join as a member, for as many issues as .ml and dbzer0 have, I prefer to broaden my viewpoints than to keep seeing the same capitalist viewpoints repeated over and over again.
lemmy.world is more left than the Tankie Triad but it's still funding them so I say leave the entirety of Lemmy behind and go piefed.
Wasn’t Piefed adding code to block people from upvoting and downvoting too much? If they’re on Lemmy a lot they might not appreciate that kind of restriction, especially if they post a lot of content.
I haven't seen anything of the sort, personally. A while back the larger Piefed instance was "shadowbanning" instances they don't promote, but instance owners are free to do as they wish.
There is an "upvote quota" but I've personally never hit it so I don't know what happens when you do, I kind of doubt a regular human could unless they made it their full time job.
piefed.social
PugJesus talks about it, before signing off for good.
Yeah he's talking about the upvote quota. Everybody gets one, visible on the profile, resets daily.
Right, and like he points out, as a frequent poster he often engages low-key with the people who comment on his posts with upvotes. So this really made it hard to engage for him.
Regardless it’s a shit decision by the admin. Everyone on Lemmy gets one upvote/downvote per post they interact with. It’s not as if you can upvote or downvote a post multiple times (unless you go though multiple accounts, which that stupid rule wouldn’t fix anyways), so who cares if some people are upvoting or downvoting more than others? That just means they’re on Lemmy more, which is fine.
So it’s a shit rule for something that isn’t a problem, and doesn’t address a possible adjacent problem (making lots of puppet accounts to push personal agendas) that could actually be an issue. That admin is just an idiot and an ass. I don’t blame Pug for leaving.
I can see it being useful if, for example, a group of machines downvoted enough to be a major influence but not enough to trigger bot detection algorithms. In general, decentralized platforms are much less capable of dealing with such attacks, whereas Reddit (before the company went public and the owner sold out to AI) was identifying and banning millions of bots a month using largescale and complex methods which would be impossible at a smaller scale.
But again, that’s a group. It doesn’t trigger over an entire instance, it triggers only on individual accounts. So it would do absolutely nothing against an issue like that, as I pointed out.
It will trigger each individual account and therefor the entire group. There is an easy workaround if they used more accounts but I'm assuming they already used the maximum number of accounts they could get away with if they were botting.
No? Again, one account, one vote per comment. Each account votes once, on one person’s comment, isn’t going to trigger shit.
If anything, making a ton of puppet accounts and having only some vote in rotation to push your agenda would be the best way to get around it. So it encourages a problem while claiming to fix a problem that isn’t there.
Worse, it drives off the people who are on Lemmy a lot and make a lot of the content. That idiot admin just wants Lemmy to be silent, and he should just unplug his computer and go touch grass on a mountainside somewhere if he wants silence.
At the end of the day each account now has a limit that most humans will never notice, whereas before they could perform as many actions as they desired. It's the difference between infinite and a very large but clearly limited number.
And if those automated systems hit their limit because the botter issued instructions for them to vote past their limit, then it becomes suspicious behavior which can be used to identify them. Especially true when the botter is part of network utilizing a shared pool of automated accounts.
To be clear, in this particular thread we're discussing a PieFed feature, not Lemmy.
Now, I do agree it should be configurable and toggleable by the instance owners, but I see value in the feature.
Yes, but PugJesus hosted all his stuff on Pifed. That’s why he left; it was just too much to move.
And again, if he was hitting it regularly, just a regular Lemmy content creator, that limit was way too fucking low.
And again, since the limit is well-displayed, it’s not hard to get around it.
So it’s fucking stupid.
Again you keep saying Lemmy, that's wrong. That isn't Lemmy. Lemmy is the one run by red fascist tankie genocidal anti-trans maniacs.
Sorry. I tend to use Lemmy as another stand-in for fediverse, same as people say Kleenex for facial tissues.
But you still seem to think this ban on interacting too much with people is a good thing, which I just can’t fathom.
No-one can vote on a post more than once, and the votes are meaningless anyways. Plus, the more content and interactions, the better the fediverse is. So why stop people from voting to their heart’s content? The admin even flat-out said he thought too much interaction in the fediverse was a bad thing, which is like… that’s why we’re here? To interact with people?
Piefed doesn't look that better tbh
Here is a LINK to a long list of citations of extremism, imperialism, and promotion of war, genocide, and violence by the head Lemmy developers and owners of Lemmy ML. People who host Lemmy have the moral responsibility to vet every update and remove all links to donate to Lemmy development or they're complicit in these crimes.
Until something irredeemably bad comes out about the Piefed devs, they're infinitely better.
Gotta look in mbin i guess...neither lemmy or piefed devs seem to be good people tbh
Tankies would be there, but actually Tankies maintain lemmy to begin with.. That's why I use piefed.
