His view on Israel has shifted considerably. I don't blame him for trying to highlight the parallels to gain favor and cooperation immediately after October 7. Naturally he's signaling, "Ah, you're going through what we've been going through! Let's work together!"
Though of course after months went on and Israel's response became orders of magnitude more atrocious and russian-like than the attack itself, then Ukraine began distancing itself and even providing aid to Gaza.
