I agree with all the rest except for gas. And not because I want oil companies to keep making huge profits, but rather because our oil based economy is bad for the environment, for us, and in turn, for the future economy. It's really sad to see politicians from nearly all horizons just promise cheap gas to everyone. We should free as much people as possible from the burden of having to pay for gas in the first place. We should have more affordable public transit and more protected bike lanes and paths, not cheaper gas. Fuck the oil industry. We should starve it, not encourage it.
While I agree with almost everything you're saying, the reality is that too much of our infrastructure and peoples' lives are based on gas. Removing gas subsidies and limiting production needs to be preceded by cost effective measures to allow people to move away from gas. This means better mass transit, a more robust electrical grid, more diverse renewable electrical generation and storage, and cost effective sustainable vehicles (both cars and semis.) There is a sharp divide between those that can afford electric vehicles and those who cannot. Those that cannot would be hit double hard by an increased cost of good that are transported by gas vehicles. Gas should be more expensive, but alternatives need to be more viable.
Let's be honest, it means switching to renewables and the grid upgrades. The U.S. wont have mass transit upgrades for 100 years. The renewables will be done around 2050. Why, not because they are worse for the environment, because they will cost more and are dumb for investors.
