u/Waterpumpee: this is a well worn path for what used to be western civilization, and enshrined in the UN charter than Israel and the US both signed. Using violence for self defense has to satisfy 3 ideas for it to be legitimate. (1) You have to have honestly exhausted peaceful means. (2) It has to be due to a real threat rather than an imagined one, and (3) it has to be proportional.

1. Palestinian civilians were never a threat.
2. Nor were all peaceful means exhausted by Israel. They never honored what deals they made, going all the way back to partition, and they assassinate negotiators and journalists as a policy.
3. And even considering Israels framing of Palestinians as a unified block-- where all Palestinians are somehow hamas killers, which is obviously a bankrupt racist idea and a war crime-- the violence leveled on Palestinians for the last 80 years has never been proportional to what Israel was then answered with. Israelis prided themselves on a 10-1 or 100-1 ratio of victims. If a kid throws a rock they kill the whole family.

Palestinians have a legitimate right to self defense and Israelis just dont have a leg to stand on in terms of a justification for using force. they really never have since the first 5 minutes of Israels existence when they launched the Nakba displacing 100s of thousands and murdering like crazy. Israelis are terrorists. Its really that simple, and the logic of it really cant be disproven.

The western world should be boots on the ground there, today, making sure the israelis respect the UN charter they promised they would honor when they signed the document, and containing them in the land they agreed to stay in when the country was started. They wont do it themselves so they need to be contained militarily for the good of the planet. This war with Iran is another front on their war, and no one else wanted it or gains from it.
