Given that Steam Frame is ARM64, and runs a rooted version of Linux, I wonder how long until a homebrew version crops up. I hope people are playing with this idea.
Like you mean homebrew version as in hardware? that is already possible.
There is nothing stopping anyone from making an OpenXR compatible headset that runs linux, the steam frame is one example of this but its not like the steam frame invented this, its just really hard.
Well, it probably wouldn't have this much demand if it ran Solaris with no root password set on SPARC...
Anyways, you can hotglue a computer to a Valve Index then make it run Monado with WlxOverlay. I don't know if it can run without a monitor, I guess you will have to try it and see, or just make a fake software monitor.
