Finally a thread for me!

I like the protected tabs because barring any absurd workspace dimensions I can use the plastic as extra leverage to press down on the tab with.

And I like sliding the Ethernet Foreskin over the terminal after I'm done assembling it ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Plus you can re-use the covers later for sex later

The time so nice, they said it twice

Recite the Ode after me:
Orange-stripe Orange, Green-Stripe Blue,
Blue-Stripe Green, Brown-Stripe Brown

Also: my life improved immensely when I decided to spend 12 quid to buy this:

I literally sploosh every time I use it. Doesn't matter what the wire, length, thickness, or girth. They crimp all the same

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Mine, hold your excitement, mine crimps from six sides at once!!! SIX!!

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh shit, should I send mine back?? I got it yesterday, but not sure if I cheaped out. Is 6 better than 4?

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I have no clue, probably not 😅

I just wanted to add to it. And I love how the crimp... things close!

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 2 points 1 week ago

I know! It's sooo satisfying

The wall behind me. Chin up, no drooling.

Good crimpers and strippers are worth their weight in what you paid for them in pennies.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm impressed mostly by the size of that peg board. They're surprisingly expensive...!

[–] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Are they where you are? That stinks, they are cheap here in the US, especially years ago. All the mounts are custom designed and printed by me: https://nowsci.com/pegboard/

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

$23 for a 1.2m by 2.4 m wooden pegboard sounds like a dream. Here, you're looking easily at £100...

Very impressed by your 3d mounts though, I'm still in the process of setting up my Voron. I'm finally down to the electrics, and am getting some weird shorting behaviour with my z-endstop, but slowly and steadily debugging it

[–] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Loved my Voron v0.2 build, so much fun and got lucky without many problems. The display kept screwing it up, so disconnected it and it's been happy since. Which Voron? At that price for pegboard, printing some multi board might be cheaper! I considered doing that since I have a big boy printer, too, but decided to stick with the pegboard.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah I'm on a 0.2, I thought it would be easy... and here I am months later! As for pegboard, I did a bit of a shop and there are some that make it to that size and thickness at a similar price, but to collect them would be a two hour drive into a whole other city

[–] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Are there "sheets" of anything you can get cheap? Or from sonsignment? You could make a jig and drill a bunch of holes to make one?

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I could buy some ply or mdf and have a go myself, but precision drilling would be difficult

[–] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Yea, a 3-point jig would work. I.E. make a right triangle with three holes the right distance apart.

Place it over the wood and drill through the first two holes holding it steady and square.

From there it gets easy, just put pegs in two of the holes of the jig, pushed through into the two holes you drilled in the board behind it. Now the jig doesnt move and you can drill the third hole. Rotate and spin from there to do all the rest.

A total pain for sure, though 😀

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

huh, you've opened my eyes to the possibility of it!

[–] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

I just saw your last post. If you can do that birthday math, you can do this 😄

[–] im_fine_sandy@nord.pub 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What is this?

I know what crimping is, and I know how to terminate an Ethernet cable, but I don't know why you'd want to crimp 4 things at once and don't know what those socket things you're crimping on are?

[–] kif@lemmy.nz 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ferrules - great for terminal blocks, wagos etc. It's just for crimping one - the stripped wire goes into the plastic end, and the metal sheathing is crimped down onto the exposed wire.

I need to get some of these for my audio cable

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

And you just stick all the Ethernet wires in? Like a nasty naughty little thing.

[–] RVGamer06@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Are we sure Lemmy doesn't have an algorithm? This is the second comment dropping the Golden Crimping Code i see in like 5 minutes

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 6 points 1 week ago

Lemmy Code: Shun capitalism and push crimping products. You will comply.

Orange on left

Brown on right

Stripe solid stripe solid

Green green was the worst anime I have ever fucking seen

Green green bad

I hate that this is what works for me

[–] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

New core memory.

[–] RamRabbit@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Am I the only one to call them 'light orange' instead of 'orange-stripe'? I know they aren't that color, yet whenever I'm crimping a cable and have to repeat the colors to get them in order...

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

"white orange" in my neck of the woods.

[–] MoffKalast@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

"Doctor, are you sure this will work!?"

"HAHA, I have NO IDEA!"
