A collection of some classic Lemmy memes for your enjoyment
Medic!

Finally a thread for me!
I like the protected tabs because barring any absurd workspace dimensions I can use the plastic as extra leverage to press down on the tab with.
And I like sliding the Ethernet Foreskin over the terminal after I'm done assembling it ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Plus you can re-use the covers later for sex later
Recite the Ode after me:
Orange-stripe Orange,
Green-Stripe Blue,
Blue-Stripe Green,
Brown-Stripe Brown
Also: my life improved immensely when I decided to spend 12 quid to buy this:

I literally sploosh every time I use it. Doesn't matter what the wire, length, thickness, or girth. They crimp all the same
Mine, hold your excitement, mine crimps from six sides at once!!! SIX!!
Are we sure Lemmy doesn't have an algorithm? This is the second comment dropping the Golden Crimping Code i see in like 5 minutes
Orange on left
Brown on right
Stripe solid stripe solid
Green green was the worst anime I have ever fucking seen
Green green bad
I hate that this is what works for me
Guy I used to work with would intentionally break off the latch on every cable he touched, rendering this question moot.

I assume he has since disappeared under mysterious circumstances, at the same time as all of his coworkers were somewhere else on a walk together (or so they swear)
Literally never found myself wanting one of these on my cable. I've found myself swearing at them more times than I can remember
You've apparently never pulled hundreds of feet of ethernet cable from racks or under raised datacenter floors. Without these, you're replacing that connector once it pops loose from the tangle without a tab
Who's pulling hundreds of feet of already terminated cable?
People who work on highrises. Ownership and management really have no concept of what they are asking when they say the server room needs to go from one side of the building to another, especially if there is satellite internet. Fuck satellite internet.
Reboots some switches
How are you rebooting a switch with a connector?
Some dumber manufacturers put the reset button right above a port, such that the clip cover can bump it on insertion.
This Cisco field notice has diagrams for the curious.
Hey! You made me click a Cisco URL! My phone is provably infected now!
In some cases it presses the button that is right above the eathernet slots
I always circumcise my RJ45 connectors before plugging them in.
Great, now I'm going to call these RJ45 foreskins.
I'm a no boot man, causes more issues then they solve.
yeah same. I can count on one hand the number of times I've ripped lock tabs off, meanwhile the number of times the stiff protective boot makes it impossible to unclip when it is cold or more than 5yo is easily in the thousands.
Also reterminating a plug with a broken lock tab takes like 5 minutes to cut and crimp.. Or be a real chad and throw a strip of duct tape to hold it in and say fuckit.
There’s a secret third option I didn’t include

One on the right, when asked about "some switches":

The one on the right, every day. The one on the left is a pain in the ass to disconnect.
* poorly designed switches
Reboots some switches is a pro.
I’m a “push buttons” computer nerd, not a “series of tubes” computer nerd
Why does this thing exist? What’s it for? Please treat me like one of the chimps from 2001 discovering the monolith, because that’s what the network is to me.
Also left one can fuck right off. Nobody tells me what I can’t unplug.
We're running that cable direct into the case and soldering the connectors, just for you. We'll decide when you can disconnect.

VGA port: "I'm tired, boss"
Cable's like

I mean that's why VGA connectors have screws, right?
and this is why NEC requires clamps on wires housed in boxes through walls.
It’s there so the little plastic tab that keeps the Ethernet cable plugged in doesn’t break easily.
Because honestly, those little plastic tabs are a shit design for keeping something important plugged in.
Neither. I choose neither.
Gotta love how "memes" is just computing memes and we are all fine with it anyway.
