They used to have a lounge with a bar on the airplane. With smoking inside. Would you even notice a 6 hour flight? 2 martinis and a stop by the mile high club and you're already at LAX
This still existed on domestic flights in China up until 2020. Now the only people who have this much freedom are the few older Chinese pilots who got medical exemptions and can still smoke until they retire.
