Again, you seem to be missing the point. No one is equating evil people with being gay or gueerness in general. The joke is not "they are republican men, therefore they are gay," like you seem to be implying. The joke is that many pompous holier-than-thou gay-bashing conservative women ironically have husbands that are not attracted to them and cheat on them as a result of their conservatism.

That's because conservativism mandates people be their narrow definition of "normal". People that don't fit that definition then are made to be closeted about their "abnormalities" or express them in secret. Necessarily, that means many conservative gay men have conservative wives that they aren't attracted to. That part is sad for people forced to live under such circumstances. But for many, this is self imposed. And in that case, the irony of being bitten by their own shitty ideals, particularly while trying to brag about those ideals and put down others, is funny.
