And what's your solution?
Door-to-door gun confiscation? That's not a policy, it's a declaration of war. Do you wanna be the one going around to every redneck's house saying, "Hi, I'm from the government and I'm here to take your guns away?" And if you start a war, who do you think is gonna win: the side with guns or the side without?
Banning gun sales? Too late, they're already too widespread. The only thing that does is lock in the current situation, where the right has guns and the left (mostly) doesn't.
If I'm stuck in an elevator with a Nazi, best case I have a gun and he doesn't. Next is neither of us have guns. Next is we both have guns. And worst is he has a gun and I don't. That's where we're at right now. If a right-winger with 5 guns can't buy a 6th, it doesn't matter, but if a leftist with zero guns can't buy one it does.
Of course, both of those options go directly against the constitution and would be impossible to implement without an impossible supermajority or stacking the Court. And if you violate procedure you delegitimize the government, which is kind of important if you're planning to fight a civil war.
So what's left? Ineffectual, half-assed solutions that accomplish nothing other than pissing people off and make them panic-buy more guns.
Go ahead, walk me through what you want and how you'd go about it. I'm all ears.
There are tons of solutions to this problem, but your learned helplessness has paralyzed you. You have already decided in your own head there is no solution. This is resignation and defeat. More Americans will die this day and everyday we don't fix this.
You know another widespread problem? Drugs. I guess confiscation won't work, I guess arresting dealers won't help, and I guess harm reduction won't work. The difference is we have actually tried to address this problem and if people would try to understand what is going on we could be far more effective.
I am not going to waste my time giving you ideas on how to solve this because no other country has this problem. Trust me, I have came up with tons of creative ideas but it is waste of time talking with people who have already given up.
So you have nothing and just want to be preachy and condescending, got it.
Sure, but we already know where this is going.
The first thing is safety. If a tool is unsafe and causes needless death it has to be redesigned. The reason this doesn't happen with guns is because Congress has passed a law preventing gun manufacturers from being sued.
This can be repealed of course and doing so would allow court mechanisms to address the mass murder that is perpetuated by gun manufacturers.
Going back to safety. Why can a gun shoot its owner? Why can a gun shoot a family member? It is technically possible to make a smart gun that cannot shoot its owner or a family member.
This is actually a solution gun manufacturers would support if forced to by law. We can get rid of our obsolete guns and replace them. Gun manufacturers would love that.
I have several other ideas, but I don't like wasting my time.
Is it? That's an interesting idea if it exists. I assume it would involve a camera with facial recognition. But I'd have to look at it before I really form an opinion. It wouldn't stop it if the camera was pointed at anywhere besides the face, or if it was shooting through, say, a piece of paper.
When you say, "can," if you mean that people would have to, I think you could run into a lot of the same backlash I was talking about. Probably would have better luck with a voluntary exchange, turn in your old gun and get a free smart gun sort of thing. I imagine the gun nuts would still find reasons to hate it, but hey, could save some lives.
There's a lot of people out there that confuse "suggestions" with "solutions."
We don't need to have homeless people, or poverty either. We should just do Star Trek. Duh. Everyone will vote for my suggestion because it's the best suggestion. It's such a good suggestion that it is the solution.
You have proved me wrong with a thoughtful response. Thank you.
Yes, the smart gun thing is something gun nutters actually already rail against and it would definitely have limitations. I strongly feel that erring on the side of caution would be better than someone blowing their head off or accidentally shooting a family member.
With biometrics in place, let's say a toddler gets a hold of the gun, even if it is loaded they will never be able to shoot it. There is no perfect solution of course because someone else would not be able to use you gun at a moments notice even if they were trying to defend you.
Story time. My wife grew up with a best friend in Washington. Her sister was up one night getting a snack and her husband shot her several times in the stomach. He claimed he thought she was an intruder getting into their fridge!? At any rate, she survived and ended up divorcing him.
Yes, of course there would be backlash. There are always winners and losers in everything. The trick is minimizing the loss and maximizing the desired results.
I really like the idea of replacing old unsafe guns because it is a good excuse to roundup all the guns without depriving people of a gun they can still buy. Granted it is buying another gun, but that is the buy-in that gun manufacturers would need.
You could also have some kind of exception for historical gun collectors. These are the best kind of solutions because it tries to come up with something positive for all parties even if some people will never be satisfied.
Name some. You're great at saying there's tons of solutions but you get an "F" for providing one.
Oh wait, there it is... you have no solutions.
I already answered. You guys are real assholes.
You are a liar and a child. I scrolled through one page of your inane, mindless, bullshit and you have provided NO SOLUTIONS. If you have provided a solution in the past, it wasn't within the past 4 hours. You can do the work of sifting through that cesspool of brain-rot that you call your profile, and re-post your solution(s). I'm sure as fuck not spending any time making myself less intelligent by reading through an additional page of your nonsense.
It is literally there, I can't help you if you can't even navigate posts and responses.
You can’t help cause you’re full of shit and it’s not there. You have no solution. Lying child.
You know how stupid you look when you are demanding an answer I gave to someone else? You don't own my time and I have given enough of it to you already. Blocked for assholery.
You didn't provide the answer to anyone else though, lying child.
