That's kind of a whirlwind response.

Memes like these are why the left never wins.

lmao no it absolutely is not

I would then use the time after the Dems were elected to force the party to change or prop up an alternative.

This is why. The vast majority of dem voters don't do this, and that is why the left never wins. Those same dem voters then blame people who have been trying to change the system (who they have been ignoring and downplaying) for not supporting dems in their march to the right. They have arrived btw, at the right (as I'm sure you, as a European, can clearly see). So from not supporting labor unions to not trying to get money out of politics to not supporting / starting a new political party, to not participating in politics at all between presidential elections every 4 years... the list goes on but the self-smug dem voters don't do shit, ignore the left that is trying to get shit done, and then cry when American fascism turns against even whites, or at least disturbs their brunch at this early stage. The cherry on top, when they go full clown, is when they say that the responsibility of the state of the USA rests on one single person, Donald Trump. Trump is the symptom, not the problem, and now the American disease is everyone's problem.

But yes I definitely agree that the left should strive for the kind of unity of action that the right has. It's admirable.

Look I get it, it's not like I can't see it happening in Europe right now too. And it's not like I know the answer on how to combat the right most effectively. Argueing amongst ourselves on the best approach or even feeling left out so much you choose to stay in between the collective left and the extreme right has however not helped us at all. If anything we are where we are because we keep infantilising or villainizing those we don't agree with on specific subjects while we forget that there are plenty that not only disagree with on the way we want democracy to play out, but on the "if".

Keep argueing and discussing on matters but never lose sight of the fact that you both want the best for your country and its people and ylu certainly want to keep the basic rights and democracy. Maybe you cannot agree on much, but keep in mind that you are in agreement on the most fundamental of all matters, you are democrats (not in the party way).
