third party voting is a signal that maybe things should change fundamentally, and since voting is the only way to express things, maybe you should listen instead of convict

I voted Kamala, mind you

So . . . you don;t think things should change?

[–] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

why would I not want things to change?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Because you didn’t vote third party?

Is that the only way to affect change in this world? I used to call myself an anarchist. Do you think I just vote to change this world into one I wish it to be? And even so, maybe the change I sought was "anyone but donald trump" because I literally could foresee this administration doing exactly this? When fascism is on the line, I was strategic in my actions by voting for Kamala. I'm no accelerationist. I would like to vote third party in national elections if the system were friendlier to it, but I am well aware of how the national election system works in the US—I know it was in favor of donald trump winning.

That's great.

Voting 3rd party for president when the party behind that candidate holds absolutely no power or influence is still a stupid thing to do. Voting for a candidate that only gets 0.5% of the votes is not intelligent. And the other 3rd party candidates some people voted for got less than that.

Now, normally, I'd be advocating for people to vote 3rd party for local/state elections so that maybe one day a vote for a 3rd party presidential candidate wasn't a stupid thing to do. But in case you haven't noticed, things are getting pretty fucking sketchy. So this time around I think it would be pretty dumb to vote 3rd party in the midterms because we need to do EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO STOP THE FASCISTS IN CONTROL.

Then, when/if we get things back to a somewhat normal situation, I'd be more than happy to see people voting 3rd party in local/state elections to try to build a 3rd party's influence and I'd probably join them in doing so.

I encourage you to talk to people in real life about this
