Coffee is not unhealthy. Why would a doctor be asking a patient about coffee consumption? Doctors ask about cigarettes and ALCOHOL.

Caffeine can have all kinds of interactions with other drugs.

[–] HowAbt2day@futurology.today 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Which one? That’s interesting.

Dammmnnnn , I was unaware.

“There are 114 drugs known to interact withcaffeine, along with 9 disease interactions, and 5 alcohol/food interactions. Of the total drug interactions, 5 are major, 94 are moderate, and 15 are minor.”

And my brain read it in a German speaking English accent.

Wasn’t there that woman who died because Panera Bread didn’t label their decaf lemonade (??) appropriately?

Edit: yes obviously she had some existing condition…

a very rare heart condition (long q-t) where you can't have any stimulants. it's genetic.

Caffeine is bad for your sleep, especially when drunk too late or too much.

[–] Eheran@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

It has no effect on me in that regard.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago

That's exactly why I drink it, to not fall asleep

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

My cardiologist would also like to know.

However mostly only excessive like a few cups or more per day.

Caffeine jacks up my muscle tone so the shoulders are cranked all kinds of ways. Afaik it also raises blood pressure, and is a diuretic. Ah, and of course it speeds up gut motility too.

[–] Peruvian_Skies@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

It's very slightly diuretic, but that effect is overshadowed by the fact that it's 99% water. Coffee actually hydrates you.

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

That doesn't matter if the doctor is trying to calculate some medicine dosage.
