Worst thing is, they don't make that much more money than some repeatable manual labor, but instead of being useful to the society, they help destroy it.

Internet was a mistake.

Anonymous internet was a mistake (says Simulation6)

What's going on here?

Its this person controlling these devices from a laptop?

For what purpose? Clicks and likes?

[–] 0_o7@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Its this person controlling these devices from a laptop?

On Android, you can enable ADB over Wifi, then you just connect to those IP addresses to share the screen and control the device.

They use real devices because every devices likely has a separate mobile data running and unique identifiers tied to those device, apps and configuration, which makes them appear authentic users and hence fool automatic spam detection systems.

I want a wall of phones that I can control from a laptop. No idea what I would do with it, but I want it.

Didn't say I wanted to hear about him either (if someone starts explaining)

If I'd be stuck doing this, I'd start writing personalities for the alts.

This Xiaomi 10s is Greg, his wife Lauren (Pixel 3a) left him because he slapped her eleven years into their marriage. He begged her to come back, but Lauren is too afraid to end up like her friend Emy (Galaxy with flickering screen), to get caught up in the cycle of "leave-forgive". The ladies are meeting on Friday, posting similar pictures of wine glasses into their feeds.

Greg sees his son twice a month (an iphone, the small one they stopped making awhile ago). Lately he can't seem to get rid of the thought that he's not doing it because he wants to, but because "that's what fathers do". The next visit will be his last, he'll switch to sending cards and racist tweets about Mamdani.

[–] te_abstract_art@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Greg is a Xiaomi, wife is a Pixel but his son is an iPhone? I think Lauren has been unfaithful and Greg should get a paternity test

[–] Maxxie@piefed.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 week ago

How dare you, Greg would never abandon his child because he was adopted.

No, he's going to do it because he harbors deep resentment for what he became, what he could've been. Any time someone perceives him feels like a metaphorical slap across his face, not unlike the real physical one he in his wrathful impotence inflicted onto Laura.

Greg needs therapy, but he's only getting it later in his 50s because I enjoy imagining pathetic people. It's very normal do not think into it.

I appreciate the thought and story telling here 😂

It took me a second but that’s hilarious

[–] MyTurtleSwimsUpsideDown@fedia.io 32 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Is it about all the maga twitter accounts having foreign origins. Or am I missing something else.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 24 points 1 week ago

Yes. Just one little Japanese girl with 100 iPads tweeting “we are Charlie Kirk” over and over.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 35 points 1 week ago (2 children)

This has always been known and the morons have always chosen to ignore it. It won't be different this time.

From a networking perspective I'm impressed.

Yeah, high density APs that can handle a lot of clients exist, in theory...but in practice you can't expect many devices to be simultaneously in-use. Having this many clients per square foot? SNR for those phones must be terrible. Amazing it works.

[–] hereiamagain@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (4 children)

Don't know why you're getting down voted. It is indeed impressive that all those WiFi radios are working that close together. There's another wall of phones behind it, double! Probably more in the room too.

There's gotta be 100 phones on that first wall alone, plus double it, so 200. More in the room? Other rooms? Hundreds of phones, all screaming out WiFi, trying to connect.

From a networking perspective, impressive indeed. Those phones must hate life.

Edit: heck I bet most consumer grade routers DHCP servers would choke after the first 255 clients (probably much sooner) just from having to change subnets. I'm not a networkologist though so IDK for sure

[–] squaresinger@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (10 children)

The phones are all wired, so I could imagine they receive LAN via USB-C. That would make the whole setup not that difficult.

On the other side, these phones don't need to be all active at the same time. I could imagine that they just switch on the Wifi while interacting with one of the phones.

Edit: Check out this post. There you can see the USB-to-LAN dongles hanging off the phones.

Back in my day we called them multiboxers

[–] rothaine@lemmy.zip 25 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Why actually separate devices and not, like, VMs or something?

[–] Croquette@sh.itjust.works 29 points 1 week ago (2 children)

You buy a cheap phone. No need to pay for license, setup anything except a vpn maybe and you are good to go.

Setting up lots of VM takes a decent computer, some licenses and a know how.

A phone, you just start it and it connects to a VPN and your good to go.

[–] Ziglin@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago (3 children)

What license would be required? I just use qemu.

It's to fool any detection that look for VM

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Good luck running iOS that way

[–] MinFapper@startrek.website 7 points 1 week ago

There are a lot of programs that try to detect VMs and other unverified environments (e.g. Google's safety net) to deter bots and fraud.

Buying physical devices circumvents all that

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 21 points 1 week ago

This explains a lot, like how MAGA is everywhere online but I only ever see a few "in the wild".

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So are they all on mobile data to get different IPs? Or is there a vpn thing to get around that?

[–] felixwhynot@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Mobile is an easy way
