Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement there was "no basis" for an investigation. The statement comes as new polling shows over half of Americans say the shooting was unjustified.

Justice Department officials said on Jan. 13 there is "no basis" for an investigation into the killing of Renee Nicole Good, the mother of three whose fatal shooting by an immigration enforcement agent sparked protests across the country.

"There is currently no basis for a criminal civil rights investigation," Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement referring to Good.

The 37-year-old was fatally shot on Jan. 7 in Minneapolis, Minnesota by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jonathan Ross, when she moved her car forward near the ICE agent. Her death has inspired widespread protests against the Trump administration’s militarized use of the Department of Homeland Security.

The Department of Justice is instead moving to investigate Good’s widow

Jesus fucking Christ, the nerve of these people

This is the 'Flood the Zone' strategy used by Russia and promoted by Bannon in the last Trump admin.

It doesn't matter if it is bullshit, in fact it is always bullshit that drives outrage. They keep doing it enough so that the news is clogged up reporting on bullshit and the algorithms are recommending bullshit instead of covering important stories in depth.

There is no longer any justice in America.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 73 points 6 days ago (15 children)

Yeah...

But that's been true for a long time.

We tried convincing "moderates" that back when Biden was in office and we could fix shit.

But Biden wouldn't, and now that shit is bad for suburban white moms too, suddenly it's a brand new issue.

Like, great you finally realized it, but it would have been best if you didn't ignore everyone telling you that your entire life.

Because then you could have helped us fix shit before it was bad for you personally

At the very least, learn that lesson moving forward:

I love how a white mom being killed is "the final straw" that shows how there is no justice and not the last year of gestapo disappearing people for not being white enough.

It kinda makes you think how fucked is the country.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 20 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Rodney King was 35 years ago...

And if you keep going back further, shit keeps getting worse.

To be clear tho, the problem was the moderate wing controlling the party, and that's already been solved with the last DNC chair election. And if a nonbiased primary gets us a progressive, they get to name the DNC chair the next four years.

Shit was real bad during the great depression, but that's what it took to get "moderate" voters onboard with progress. It's why incremental improvement never works, once it's "good enough" for one person, they stop fighting for what others want, even tho it took those other people to get "good enough" for the people who abandon them.

It's one of the biggest reasons for our shitty cyclic history, people unwilling to finish the fight once personally appeased.

It was always imperfect, but now we’re not even trying. There’s no point in maintaining a façade. They’re happy to just tell you to get fucked what are you gonna do about it?

Y'all re-elected a former president who attempted to overturn an election through a violent and deadly mob and an invasion on your Capitol Building.

Then during the four years of the next administration you all refused to actually hold him accountable for his actions, afraid of it being "too political".

There hasn't been justice in America for a long time now.

It has leaked that ICE agents are terrified of blowback from this murder: https://www.kenklippenstein.com/p/immigration-agents-terrified-by-ice

Yeah of course they're cowards. Keep the pressure on, don't let them sleep at night.

[–] MrVilliam@sh.itjust.works 32 points 6 days ago (3 children)

I'm reminded of how justice is served on the ice in a hockey game. If a player executes an illegal, dangerous hit on another player, especially if the victim is the goalie or a star player, and the refs don't call shit, then that guy is about to get his ass beat.

There will be consequences, even if the DoJ refuses to act. The heat is rising on this cold civil war. When trump crowns himself head of the fed and slashes interest rates, and when the dollar crashes soon thereafter, shit's gonna get crazy.

I'm also predicting that somebody high up in this administration refers to America as an "empire" and then a "realm" and possibly just straight up a "reich" within this year.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 21 points 6 days ago

That seems to be the thing the administration fails to understand, accountability through apparent investigations and prosecutions mollify the anger. Even if consequences are by any reasonable measure are mild, people are still mollified at an acknowledgement of wrong doing. Deny them this, and the anger rises...

Similarly, being able to lose an election has similar value. Your opponents "won" they don't need to extract more out of you. Deny them that and again people are going to potentially break.

Anecdotally, I know of a few people that seem shockingly close to violent uprising that I never would have guessed. I can't imagine the volume of people closer to extreme views and when they will snap..

I honestly think they are reporting like that to get ICE even more on edge and getting ready to justify them having to go full murder mode.

This is the shit they do with cops. Make sure they are scared and sure everyone is out to get then to make sure they are willing and happy to pull a rifle to an Innocent's head and pull the trigger.

So what good are they then, and why should American citizens pay to keep them around?

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 31 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Yea, where is the call to not file taxes this year? We need a movement that calls for it so the few that do are not attacked. If you don't expect a refund then we should just not file.

[–] ThunderWhiskers@lemmy.world 20 points 6 days ago (2 children)

If we are expecting a refund would it be more impactful to file and receive that refund or to simply not participate?

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 26 points 6 days ago

Take the refund.

I expect to owe thousands this year so I plan to file an extension to October and then just...not file.

And then I'll just slow responding to the letter if/when they come.

I think it'll work for awhile, I literally just got confirmation that my 2021 taxes that were filed on time were processed. They're definitely lagging.

[–] thoro@lemmy.ml 41 points 6 days ago (6 children)

This is pretty much what I expected from this scum administration.

The real depressing news is in the linked article, where a survey showed only 53% of respondents thought the shooting was unjustified (35% thought it was justified, rest gave no opinion). I don't understand how you see that video and come away with any other conclusion unless you're just being actively partisan.

[–] halferect@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Key here is respondents, I never respond, I don't know anyone who takes these surveys, the only people who pick up and agree to surveys are on landlines and usually old, hardly a real representation of the feeling of the majority

over half of Americans say the shooting was unjustified.

That's a low bar to pass if I've ever seen one.

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 26 points 5 days ago

Most corrupt DOJ in American history. And that's saying a lot.

[–] regedit@lemmy.zip 27 points 5 days ago (2 children)

They want a reason to invoke Martial Law. You know what I just realized? You can't insult them, they feed on it. The same way they feed on violence. Ya know what did work on them?

WEIRD

They had no rebuke to being called weird. It started to work as they fought to make a sensible retort. Everything they tried made them sound even sillier. It was working!

We should do the physical version of that. Turn a mirror on them and embarrass them. Think Mark Rober style of traps. If every porch they smashed had a chance to unleash fart spray on their clothes and equipment, for instance, they might hesitate. Meeting such a thing, especially if automated and filmed, might just make some of that shame seep in.

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago

Just pointing and laughing loudly infuriates the more than anything, they want a tough guy confrontation

When the people don't get justice through legal means, they have no choice but to seek it through illegal means.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 21 points 5 days ago (1 children)

If Americans against Trump don’t seriously rise up over this - woman shot in the face x3 for nothing, ICE Gestapo acting as judge, jury and executioner - the US is over. There’s no difference between her state sanctioned murder and being disappeared in any Banana Republic.

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 10 points 5 days ago

I keep being surprised at people thinking it's almost there, that line, when it's far back in the rearview.

[–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 33 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Time for Minnesota to handle it. You can’t say “we can’t and you can’t either” (granted that’s what they’ll try to say)

Don't accept this answer. There must be an investigation as the public demands it. These jokers just don't get it.

[–] Boiglenoight@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago (4 children)

Oh they get it. They do not care because the person that was harmed was not one of them. Even then…the number of faces eaten by leopards is staggering

Uhhh... uh oh. Considering the immediate and widespread outrage response across the country from this very public murder, this is a boldly stupid move. Resentment and distrust of the US government is already at an all time high, and doubling down on an extrajudicial murder like this is only going to not only grow that resentment, but popularize the idea that if the people want justice, they'll have to do it themselves. This administration has been making some especially stupid moves recently and I don't think the world is prepared for the consequences. Like yeah, sure, the trump admin has always blahblahblah, no shit. I must emphasize that this particular term of the administration hasn't even been this stupid until the last few months. They are very much so overplaying their hand right now and they are absolutely not in a position to handle this level of escalation. I'm pretty sure they both think they have way more control than they actually do and have way too much faith in very inadequate contingencies. They're gonna continue having the appearance of being firmly in control, but at this rate, it's just a matter of time before it blows up in their face and then no one is in control. I can't emphasize enough how unprepared we all are for how quickly that will happen when it does.

They don’t give a shit, they want us to try. They’re fucking daring us. Like, actually; literally.

Seems like someone needs to "investigate" the DOJ then. It likely won't be the democrats, will it be the people?

[–] bradinutah@thelemmy.club 27 points 6 days ago (4 children)

Since we're impeaching Noem, then we must also impeach Bondi and Blanche. This administration is a horrific, shameful disgrace!

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 12 points 6 days ago

I find it highly unlikely that Republicans will vote to impeach/convict one of their own. The impeachment charges are little more than theater, which is sadly all the elected Democrats in the House and Senate are in a position to do. I'm afraid that the resolution to this constitutional crisis is in the hands of the people, not their elected representatives.

Since when does the DoJ base their decisions on how to enforce the law on public opinion? What the ever loving f**k kind of law is that? Oh, the fake kind they make up as they go along.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 17 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Great! Hand over everything you have on the incident to the state of Minnesota.

Every protestor should be openly armed. At their core, ICE agents are just slightly older school bullies - cowards in other words. If they knew that the protestors would respond in kind there's no way they would risk shooting anyone.
