Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

You can check to see if your congressional rep has endorsed impeaching Kristi Noem over the military-style occupation. Note that this is only updated once per day, and there is at least one congrasman who signed on since the last update. [John Garamendi]

I thought we'd decided that fascism sucked 80 years ago...

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Some ~~people~~ assholes forgot history

[–] phx@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

And some assholes remembered it and are trying to one-up last time

Fascists aren't people. If they refuse to act like humans, they shouldn't be treated like humans

The oldest of the wwii vets have all but passed away, and with them, the reality of fascism has passed from living memory. Kind of the same way we are living through the rise of aristocracy during a new gilded age

It's quite sad. My great-grandfather was in the Motstandsbevegelsen in occupied Norway during the war. I can only imagine what he'd think of today's world...

Spoiler alert: it's only Democrats

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 37 points 3 days ago

Well yeah, Republicans don't think that they're subject to the jurisdiction of the United States

but not my shitty dem rep. I have to send him another email reminding him which letter is next to his name and what being legislator is.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 3 points 3 days ago

Call too, if you can.

[–] PodPerson@lemmy.zip 12 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Small relief - don’t have to contact my rep cause she’s on the cosponsor list.

[–] BingBong@sh.itjust.works 16 points 3 days ago

Contact them anyways to show support for them doing this. Make sure the hate voices aren't the loudest that they hear.

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 5 points 3 days ago

Please thank them. Positive reinforcement is a thing

ICE sucks because the White House sucks. Shit flows downhill.

[–] human@slrpnk.net 23 points 3 days ago (2 children)

"... [T]here's the right way to do this. And this doesn't look like the right way to a lot of people."

I'm not sure there is.

ICE's aggressive tactics are dominating the news and obscuring the White House's work on cost-of-living issues that congressional Republicans, Trump and his team see as more important.

The "right way" to do it was how Obama and Biden did it, so they definitely can't be doing that.

[–] Mog_fanatic@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't even know what the narrative any more. For a long time the affordability thing was a hoax. Then it wasn't a hoax but they already solved it. Now they're back to working on it?

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 6 points 3 days ago

Don't kid yourself, they've graduated from narratives. When was the last time a republican told you a story?

These days they just openly do evil shit and occasionally, in passing, say a word like "fentanyl" to remind their followers to be afraid and obedient.

At the end of every dictatorship there's either a corrupt offspring to carry it on, or it collapses.
And when Donvict Drumpf dies his cult of stupidity will die with it. Amazingly, his disgusting offspring have even less charisma than that fat old child rapist.
So when this dictatorship is over you guys better bring people to justice. It's shameful what you've allowed to happen.

Obviously the perfect way would be to guillotine the orange kiddie fiddler then jail his kids and enablers. But you usa guys are apparently too scared to even accuse him of his blatant crimes, so I'll settle with the dismantling of his crime family and taking action against his enablers.

(Though you'll all do fuck all and hope it goes away. Like usual.)

Right? Something more like "Absolutely" or "Unequivocally" would be more appropriate.

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

End ICE, then end every person that worked for or with ICE.
