They could abuse quorum rules or incessantly call for a point of order if they cared. Anything to slow down this fascist machine.

When Biden/Obama were in office they had the power to keep Congress in session indefinitely if they wanted.

But they don't care.

Psa: Maga want you to stay at home and not vote. There are organized campains just to demoralize you and keep you at home in the next elections.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 30 minutes ago) (1 children)

You know what demoralizes me?

That my 80 year-old parents are stuck in poverty no matter who we elect. They were poor under Obama. Poorer under Trump I, and then poorer still under Biden. They're 80 years old and driving for DoorDash, and no Democrat is going to lift a finger to stop it.

[–] dwalin@lemmy.world 1 points 4 minutes ago

Then dont vote. I'm sure someone will be happy to decide for you.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 6 points 4 hours ago

When they speak: "Oh, a sternly worded letter, that'll fix it"

[–] vga@sopuli.xyz 5 points 4 hours ago

What do you mean, they don't speak? They speak all the time!

Are you listening?

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 9 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Political focus groups suggest that any opinion or stance on any issue may open a politician to criticism, so obviously doing nothing will yield optimal polling results! /s

The consultant wing needs to fucking die.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

Well that’s true.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 25 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

for real. they should be LITERALLY AND PHYSICALLY SCREAMING in the halls. When told “how unprofessional” they should respond with “my opponents are fascists. fuck professionalism.”

BUT since they are not burning shit down, one can only assume they are in on the fascism too.

[–] couldhavebeenyou@lemmy.zip -3 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Are you 'burning shit down'?

[–] Cherries@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

What does that have to do with elected officials not using the power they've been granted?

[–] couldhavebeenyou@lemmy.zip -2 points 4 hours ago

"Shouting in the hallways"?

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

a) where I can, yes. b) local politics, I am involved in. but i am not an elected federal official with ability to affect change and choice to not do it c) i serve the mutual aid part of my mindset as a first responder over 20 years now d) and finally I support systems who help others learn and grow.

are you?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

What have you burned down? Sounds like you’re mostly working within the system to improve it and being a reasonable professional serving the greater good in the best way you know, which is (apparently) lame.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

lol. physically burning things down - as a firefighter i tend to do the opposite. but holding people accountable in a public forum like our dumb selectmen meetings and such - yes, I have done. i do not have the financial freedom to cane a fascist in the halls like the good ole days.

[–] couldhavebeenyou@lemmy.zip -2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

No screaming in the hallways tho' ?

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

naa. no voice.

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 31 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Democrats: Got any money?

No, but seriously. They are professional fumblers. They fucked up the last election hilariously bad by running Biden for so long.

Yes, my fellow citizens are idiots, but they should’ve known better!

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 24 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (2 children)

Need to stop thinking about them as leaders and just people who arent good at anything but showing up for meetings.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 12 points 7 hours ago

Spot on with this perspective.

They’re management on a nice suit insisting everyone show up for content that’s so exciting it’s better left to an email.

Now, I can’t unsee it.

Except AOC and Bernie, of course, they have their shit together.

[–] ChristerMLB@piefed.social 7 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

imagine if people who were good at other things started showing up to those meetings

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Nah that’s too much work. Shitting on the Dems on the intertubes is way easier.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 hours ago

They really should have - Biden’s struggles with dementia were common knowledge amongst his staff by 2022. There is no excuse for not holding a primary election in good faith, other than they don’t believe in democracy any more than Repugs do.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

Voters: We want a lefty MTG, screaming at the SOTU and saying outrageous shit all the time!

[eventually gets lefty MTG screaming at the SOTU and saying outrageous shit all the time]

Voters: Not like that!

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 8 points 7 hours ago

This would be more apt if it was a bloated corpse with flies circling.

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 7 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Democrats have been working for the past year to get IEEPA tariffs struck down, and it worked. Take that win.

[–] unmagical@lemmy.ml 6 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

And then two hours later Trump just said "nuh uh" and raised tariffs globally another 10%.

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago

Not another 10%, a new round of tariffs at 10%. Notice how it's only that amount and not 150% because these ones are capped at 15%, plus these can only be in place for 150 days under the law they used.

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 6 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe watch cspan instead of Fox? Mainstream media is Conservative or full Maga.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 10 points 7 hours ago

Democrats aren't doing much there, either. You're not wrong that the media ignores or actively attacks anything resembling leadership, because a progressive political agenda is a threat to their power structure. But there is still a dearth of leaders among the elected.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml -1 points 4 hours ago

They speak the all important language of cashing donor checks from AIPAC and then doing Israel’s bidding.

[–] WraithGear@lemmy.world 0 points 5 hours ago

they are doing exactly what they intended to do. what you want from them is another matter they are unconcerned with
