Arizona’s Democratic Governor has turned down proposals for a new state license plate featuring Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk, saying it would not “bring people together.”

“Charlie Kirk's assassination is tragic and a horrifying act of violence. In America, we resolve our political differences at the ballot box,” Governor Katie Hobbs said in a statement Friday. “No matter who it targets, political violence puts us all in harm's way and damages our sacred democratic institutions.

“I will continue working toward solutions that bring people together, but this bill falls short of that standard by inserting politics into a function of government that should remain nonpartisan.”

Right-wing commentator Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at an event on the Utah Valley University campus, in Utah on September 10. He lived in Arizona with his children and wife, Erika Kirk.

They are really trying to milk this as much as they can

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 60 points 2 weeks ago

These are the people that are STILL bitching about statues of the traitor loser Confederates coming down. I wouldn't be surprised to see one of these asshats propose that his mug is put on currency or Mt. Rushmore.

I'm still making my way though that Unhumans book, and they slip at least one (so far) grievance about that in there, not to mention many grievances about BLM, the poor buttmad babies.

[–] AngryRobot@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

They're desperately relying to turn Kirk into Hoarst Wessel.

MAGAs don't do martyrdom well, because they're all narcissistic sociopaths who only care about themselves. It's hard for them to carry a torch for someone who has no immediate benefit.

We have a few that are trying to keep his memory alive, but only to bring in more money. Most MAGAs have already moved on, even his wife.

Horst Carotid-Vessel.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 62 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Yeah, no shit.

Might as well have a Hitler memorial license plate.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Or more to the point, a Horst Wessel one.

[–] takeda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 2 weeks ago

If they want to unite people how about license plate that reminds us of the Epstein files? Shortly before his death Kirk got local about them and about Israel.

In America, we resolve our political differences at the ballot box,

Do we though?

[–] sen@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They used to, though there won't be many opportunities in the future so they may have to find another way.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 1 week ago

The traditional American way is gunpowder and lead.

[–] rosco385@lemmy.wtf 37 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Arizona Senator Jake Hoffman, who co-sponsored the bill, wrote: “Even in the wake of a global civil rights leader — an Arizona resident and her own constituent — being assassinated in broad daylight for his defense of the First Amendment, Hobbs couldn’t find the human decency to put her far-Left extremism aside simply to allow those how wish to honor him to do so.

Charlie Kirk a "global civil rights leader"? Pull the other one, it has bells on.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

I'm from the UK and I knew The Human Fountain (aka Kirk) as a total cunt.

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 34 points 2 weeks ago

I mean, it brought at least two people together.

[–] ImgurRefugee114@reddthat.com 26 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Amazing how they try to deify this fucking idiot

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 14 points 2 weeks ago

Willing to bet dollars to cents more than half of them never even knew who he was before his neck geyser.

[–] notsosure@sh.itjust.works 24 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Who was Charlie Kirk again?

[–] Headofthebored@lemmy.world 21 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Didn't he run that Spinning Points USA junkmail operation or whatever?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He was all about the TP. For his bunghole.

I think.

[–] human@slrpnk.net 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Funny because he looked way more like the other guy in this image

"Butthead and Beavis as Cornholio"

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

I think of Cornholio every time I see a mention of TPUSA.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 10 points 2 weeks ago

Dude with the huge head, tiny face, and leaky neck.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

¡Yo tambien! The perspective lines really are giving a post polite society vibe. I like the artist's interpretation of BJÖRK's famous line "fountains of blood...". This shit deserves to be in MoMA!

[–] TheFresh16@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Meanwhile in Alabama like 1 out of 5 cars sport the "Don't Tread on Me" AL vanity plates, which totally brings the community together.

[–] Hazmatastic@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well, it certainly brings a community together

[–] TheFresh16@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Honestly it is a bit nice to have such a blatant self proclamation of who to avoid like the plague and keep an eye out for

[–] TrollTrollrolllol@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

They'll show you in plenty of other ways, don't worry.

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

Kirk can rot

I guess it was worth a shot. :-D

[–] ugandan_airways@lemmy.zip 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The governor of Arizona rejecting this is awesome and surprising. I have long hoped the right wing element gets booted from Arizona, manly to protect the beautiful landscapes and species that so many in the state don’t mind destroying.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Hole in the Rock is so heartbreaking. It could be gorgeous without every godsdamned surface covered in sharpie. also george hunt defaced the park with a pyramid and no friend of woodrow wilson is a friend of mine.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

i have an awl in my EDC. also an adjustable spanner. every single one i see, i'm putting an appropriate hole in. if i have to take it off the car and put it back on, i'm still doing it. no matter what state decides to make these atrocities.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'd just take a red sharpie to it.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

maybe red nail polish? and some clear coat if we have enough time

[–] OldQWERTYbastard@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Ironic that his last spoken word was "Violence."

Eat shit, Kirk.

[–] RonniePickering@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)
[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Already done, mate

[–] maplesaga@lemmy.world -4 points 1 week ago

Did he disagree with you politically or something, why so much hate?

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago

The pink plate would have been cute

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

“I will continue working toward solutions that bring people together, but this bill falls short of that standard by inserting politics into a function of government that should remain nonpartisan.”

I was almost sure that I'd find someof those "Don't Tread On Me" or other political plates in their offerings but they indeed do not offer party affiliated plates. It's sad that I was surprised. Pleasantly surprised, but surprised nonetheless.

[–] RedAggroBest@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

AZ vanity plates are, iirc, always raising money for non-profits. They are trying to say that TPUSA is somehow "only an educational non-profit" as part of this. I hate them so much.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Katie finally gets off her lazy ass and actually does something useful for once? Color me surprised.

[–] Sludgeyy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

It looks like he's giving the arrow a handjob

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

A Fred Hampton license plate would be pretty sweet

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

is this a valid license plate?
