Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

I just don't get how someone can be this selfish and this empty.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 69 points 1 month ago

He's just the accurate reflection of the Republican party's values and morals.

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 29 points 1 month ago

He is THE DISTRACTION. It's working. All eyes on this idiot while the billionaires drain the world dry.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

I get it. What I don't get is all the people who can't see it.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 month ago (21 children)

He is modern American culture in its purest, distilled form.

[–] TerdFerguson@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

An important life lesson is that psychopaths and narcissists do not have the same inner life as you do. Trying to predict them using yourself as model will lead you astray.

“I flew to Iraq. I was extremely brave. So brave I wanted to give myself the Congressional Medal of Honor,” he said, adding that he asked his “people” if he was allowed to do so. “Someday I’m gonna try. I’m gonna test the law.”

He made similar comments during his State of the Union address later that month.

“I’ve always wanted the Congressional Medal of Honor, but I was informed I’m not allowed to give it to myself, and I wouldn’t know why I’d be taking it,” Trump said. “But if they ever open up that law, I will be there with you someday.”

This is not how a sane person speaks.

Those famous “checks and balances” the US often references, don’t seem to be very checky or balancy.

[–] BranBucket@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

This is by design. May not have been in the original blueprint, but it was modified to be that way in one of the recent remodels.

Because he saw that Obama did it.

[–] BestBouclettes@jlai.lu 41 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Drop him in the middle of Teheran, if he can walk all the way back to the Gulf, he can get it.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 16 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Of Mexico, right? I'd donate to that Livestream

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Of America that only exists in his narcissistic, dementia addled brain.

I quietly approve of this. In 50 years I want that young generation to look back and realize just how corrupt and insane he was. Denials and excuses will abound. The more insanity he commits the better without costing money, global stability, and lives.

The recent video of Trump talking about the Iran War, while the anthropomorphic Easter bunny was standing besides him, was wild. I can only assume that parts of Trump's staff knows this is unsustainable, and are deliberately not stopping Trump from making such demonstrations of his mental decline.

[–] MushuChupacabra@piefed.world 33 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Perfectly normal presidential behavior.

[–] GreyEyedGhost@piefed.ca 2 points 1 month ago

Hey, dictators have piles of medals all the time! Why can't this one?

[–] Corporal_Punishment@feddit.uk 16 points 1 month ago

Pathetic. Utterly, utterly pathetic.

[–] Weirdfish@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Much rather see him with a few purple hearts

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

Look, he'd probably give them to himself for the bone spurs he suffered during Vietnam if his little war he started goes on any longer.

[–] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I’d much rather him have a noose around his neck, rather than any kind of medal.

[–] MrVilliam@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

Or, failing that, perhaps a millstone.

"But whoso shall cause one of these little ones who believe in Me to fall, it were better for him that a millstone were hung about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea." - Matthew 18:6.

[–] vegeta@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

He got his ear grazed, so he will probably want one of those as well

[–] kylie_kraft@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I think more than one veteran actually gave him their purple heart after that.

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

Ofc he does. He is a fucking loser too stupid and untalented to be able to earn any award on his own. He is jealous of those who EARNED that medal, so ofc the snowflake wants one.

[–] leftascenter@jlai.lu 10 points 1 month ago

distinguish themselves conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity, risking loss of life above and beyond the call of duty

Trump definitely distinguished himself conspicuously by intrepidly attacking other countries ,risking loss of soldiers' lives above and beyond the call of a president's duty.

They say the empty can rattles the most.

We, the American people, elected the empty can. How can we look ourselves in the mirror ever again, unless we make ourselves just as empty?

I'm open to this idea as long as it's done posthumously.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And they give it to him for killing himself

[–] MrVilliam@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Just like his idol did in that bunker many years ago. He's copied damn near everything else, so why not that part too?

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago

Unfortunately for all of us, his ego would never allow it

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Who cares? Give the big, shitty diaper baby his bottle.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 3 points 1 month ago

The Epstein Medal of ...

Of....commerce, education and the EPA!

[–] blindbunny@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

He's dieing and trying to make himself a hero before he's gone. We'll remember him as the orange pedophile.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

That would make such an honor completely meaningless.
