JD Vance, a Catholic convert who occasionally has sparred with church leaders over their criticism of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown, said in an interview on Fox News Channel on Monday night that the president’s social media post with the Jesus-like image was “a joke.”

“Of course, he took it down because he realized a lot of people weren’t understanding his humor,” Vance said.

He repeatedly dismissed the focus on the president’s fight with the pope, saying it “isn’t particularly newsworthy” and there will be disagreements from time to time with the Vatican.

But Vance also suggested the pope should stay in his lane.

They guy can't even speak properly. How can anyone get his humor? Someone get sleepy don into a home, preferable with bars.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

So what you're saying is he's a pussy who backs down when he doesn't have everyone's full support?

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 2 points 6 days ago

its a joke. anytime I seem like the antichrist its a joke.

[–] bcgm3@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Take it from me guys, Donald is not evil, nor is he exhibiting signs of mental decline. And it's definitely not both of those things! He's just uhh... Too funny. Yeah, that's it! You didn't get it. You're the problem here.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago

People understand that Trump has no sense of humor. This episode of megalomaniac narcissism was further proof of that.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

Many people have difficulties to understand what does not exist.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 26 points 1 week ago (3 children)

"It was just a joke bro!" - the mantra of feeble fascists everywhere.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 days ago

Was that a defense at Nuremberg? "Vee yust make the joke, Fritz!"

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

100%. This is what these pieces of shit always do.

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Member when he posted a video of Obama and Michelle as chimps?

His "humor" is resoundingly fascist psychopath.

oh, look, an article about my mom

Edit: Oh, it’s a whole book? She’ll just love that!

[–] Lydon_Feen@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Wasn't it supposed to be a doctor? What's the "joke" then?

These morons aren't just criminals and liars.

They are also criminally bad at lying.

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The joke is that Trump would help someone.

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

He's actually distracting him while they clean out his bank accounts as he lay dying, and twisting the knife in his ribs for his bitcoin password.

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 week ago (2 children)

No, it's supposed to be jesus, he healed people by touching them.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 days ago

I wonder if he thinks he healed the kids he touched?

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Trumps cope was that he was dressed like a doctor. Surprised that was his defense and not the classic, “an intern posted this”.

[–] mech@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Then why did Trump himself tell people that it was actually a picture of a doctor, to show support for the Red Cross?
That doesn't sound like a joke.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago

That sounds like a lame excuse.

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

No no, don't even give him that credit of sanity. He didn't say it was to show support for the Red Cross, he said it was him as a doctor who had to do the Red Cross. Not show support of the Red Cross. Not a doctor with the Red Cross. Not helping people like they do in the Red Cross.

Had to do the Red Cross. You know, as if it were some action or procedure someone could perform.

Even when criticizing this dumbass, it's like we can't help but whitewash his deteriorating mental status.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

He probably meant "about to part the Red Cross."

[–] lemmyng@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Exactly.

He probs thought Red Cross was an underage girl or something.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 days ago

Little Red Crossing Hood.

[–] VeryVito@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

All part of another amazing knee-slapper from the GOP God King of Comedy, of course.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

It's hilarious when I would see cons trying to do this "liberals can't meme" narrative they were all telling themselves and trying to foist onto the world.

These dumbfucks are almost always terrible at anything related to comedy.

When Americans got upset that John Lennon said the Beatles were more popular than Jesus, at least Lennon owned his words. He never called it a joke or belittled his critics. He calmly stated his reasons and eventually apologized for upsetting people.

I’m not saying this to hold up John Lennon as some epitome of goodness (he’s had his share of skeletons in the closet.) Rather, that even a snarky lad who built his public persona on taking the piss at any given opportunity didn’t fall back on the “it’s just a joke, bro” defense.

[–] Inucune@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Right? I'm not laughing.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 4 points 1 week ago

I thought it was a doctor picture... These fucking dipshits can't even keep their story straight.

[–] bwaz@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago

C'mon guys, it's locker room talk!.....
(won't that work this time?)

Trial balloon, that’s what it’s called. It’s a test to see how people react. It’s just a joke unless you’re fine with it, and then he’s serious.

[–] notwhoyouthink@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

I’ve also heard it described as a tolerance test; it’s a social behavior we all engage in but in the case of narcissistic personalities it’s much more nefarious and manipulative. The narcissist’s prayer sums it up well.

These types will also turn this tactic into its most extreme form, a DARVO attack, when confronted directly.

Nothing is ever their fault, they are immune to accountability and will never ever accept that they need to change. Simply step into the mind of your 5 year old self when caught doing something you knew you knew weren’t supposed to yet felt you could whine your way out of and you’ll come close to understanding this mindset.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

Trump's sense of humour also involved a fantasy of him dropping his own shit onto Americans.

[–] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah, keep telling yourself that, JD

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

Ha ha, joke about being the false idol of christianity. So funny. No one gets heresy humour anymore, people are usually so open minded about religion too go figure! /s

Jesus Christ.

[–] Corporal_Punishment@feddit.uk 1 points 1 week ago

There is absolutely no evidence to suggest Trump has a sense of humour.

He is cruel, lacking in empathy, intelligence and wit.

All the basic skills required for humour. And he's a cunt.

[–] czarcasm@kbin.earth 1 points 1 week ago

He has no sense of humor. He's just a bitter angry troll, like he always has been from birth.

[–] roofTophopper@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I dunno what people are so upset about. I just came from the doctor's office. The nurse called my name and the doctor then descended from the sky, wearing his doctor robes and shawl, hand glowing brightly as he stuffed a thermometer up my ass.

IS THAT NOT HOW ALL DOCTORS LOOK AND OPERATE.
