You gotta reach people where they are. Twitter doesn't have as many eyeballs as the others.

Zero, there's plenty of software out that there allows you to write once and post everywhere. This isn't about declining engagement either since they are still reaching literally MILLIONS of people every year.
This decision was reached because of Xitters owner, no other reason makes sense.
To the people saying things like "what took you so long", I think you're missing the point. They even address this in the post:

People leaving Twitter now is not very impressive. Less "seeing the light" and more "Trumpgret".
I'll remind you that the Debian project left Twitter over a year ago. So the EFF isn't as fast moving or comfortable with change like ... Debian.
This is not a contest to be holier than thou. It's a numbers game.
EFF stayed on Twitter because it has a larger audience and that means a larger portion of people will see their messaging. In fact, I would argue that the people that are still on Twitter are the ones most in need of seeing those messages. The people that care about what Debian is posting are almost certainly already on Mastadon.
I feel like the EFF's messaging is just not going to get through to anyone still on Twitter.
Remember, it's not a fair forum; it's an algorithm. And it's not going to show the EFF to users who need to see it.

I think sane people say the opposite - perfect is the enemy of good. OCD motherfuckers like me try to rationalize perfect as not being the enemy of good, but we are usually wrong.

It's a tough call. It is difficult to reach out to outsiders and talk to them but it's the only way to have a conversation with them.

This is clearly political, they clearly love censorship, they clearly just didnt like when it wasnt censored in the ways they wanted.

I just don't believe the rationale, there is no way threads or even Bluesky match X, its clearly political.
Take the high road and go to open platforms, just don't lie about why youre supporting the other shitty platforms that censor.
They're a political group by definition, even if you don't believe the rationale it's their prerogative, if they left former Twitter purely because it didn't align with their values that wouldn't be a contradiction in and of itself because their whole reason for existing is taking a political stand.

You can complain they aren’t doing enough I guess, but you might as well say a pet shelter loves murdering puppies because they can’t save them all or a environmentalist loves emitting co2 because they support an economically viable plan for net zero.
