I'm beginning to think our elected officials have not actually been kids. Either they are too old to remember or they're legit lizard people who never been a human child.

[–] themaninblack@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

It seems more like adults virtue signalling to each other than crafting legislation grounded in reality.

Everyone knows this was never going to stop kids. It’s weirdly controlling.

That having been said, if you’re resorting to all the stuff I would have done as a tech-oriented kid to …access Meta products? Then I don’t understand you.

Did anyone expect children to give up just because some senile psyco-moralist said so?

[–] GalacticSushi@piefed.blahaj.zone 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It certainly never stopped me from pirating music back in middle school

[–] bonenode@piefed.social 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

cough myeah, back in middle school, not at... any other time of course

[–] Glytch@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Having Napster in middle school just got me in the mindset of never paying for music online. There's always a workaround.

[–] Red0ctober@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Yes, the senile psycho-moralists making these dumbass laws

The first time I installed a keylogger was to snipe my dad’s AOL password so I could turn off parental controls on my account.

Put any problem between teenagers and porn and they will solve it in an efficient and repeatable way.

I love these bills because it’s gonna create a second generation of hackers.

I'm hoping that this kind of thing explodes VPN usage, thus training a generation to actually be far harder to track and surveil than otherwise, achieving the very opposite of the true objective of such bills.

The kids are alright.

The sooner they learn to fuck the system, the better

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 day ago

They may not know how to work computers, but they know the old ways around parental security. Its the small steps that make the race

I remember back when age verification meant Leisure Suit Larry asking me about Watergate.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

It has to make sure you're at least 57!

I imagine that a dollar store disguise mask should work wonders. Actually, I'm going to buy one today and do the face verification that Aliexpress is now requiring for many items, even basic cutters, for example.

Two kids in a trenchcoat is back in fashion!

[–] Illegalmexicant@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This is why my wife says I can't shave my beard.

[–] No1@aussie.zone 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] Illegalmexicant@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Oh she has a full beard. No one is going to mistake that for an under age girl.

[–] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Porn stache

[–] solidsmoke@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Of course they are. Do the age verification pushers not remember being children?

[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Well that's against the rules!

[–] artyom@piefed.social 12 points 2 days ago

Fake mustaches 🤣

This is just the most ridiculous mockery of how terrible this legislation is.

[–] saltnotsugar@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What’s this box of fake mustaches and bowler hats under your bed?
“Uhhhh…I’m just really into….Victorian England?”

[–] Noja@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

As opposed to the fap stash, which was the pile of porn mags in the forest in the 70s

[–] eager_eagle@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

not bad, I'll keep myself a fake stache around just in case
