Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). 3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. 4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

“I’m in Oklahoma right now and just saw this: nearly 10% of the HIV patients at OSU’s clinic are illegal aliens getting free treatment on the federal dime,”

God forbid you help people in need.

Source plz btw

[–] bus_factor@lemmy.world 8 points 16 hours ago

God forbid you treat people for infectious diseases. I don't see how that could help the rest of society at all!

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 59 points 1 day ago (3 children)

At first I was confused why he'd pick a contagious disease to be outraged at people getting treatment for, then I realized he probably thinks its some kind of divine punishment for immorality.

[–] mister_flibble@sh.itjust.works 41 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

For HIV specifically it's probably also a homophobic dogwhistle.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 7 points 19 hours ago

And racist (as usual)--people of African origin have higher rates of HIV.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 9 points 22 hours ago

HIV is mostly sexually transmitted, puritans must love it

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 19 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The whole basis for the ethnic cleansing is that immigrants are a threat to you. Infectious diseases are a tried and true line of attack.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 5 points 22 hours ago

also note that Nazis like to exploit the victims of their ethnic cleansing first, so yeah, human trafficking victims get HIV then they can die and their bodies be disposed of as disrespectfully as possible.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 3 points 1 day ago (3 children)

So wouldn't they want immigrants to get treated?

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 10 points 23 hours ago

No it's all part of the propaganda campaign to convince them they're dangerous and subhuman. After years of hammering the idea home, the solution is to get rid of them rather than provide treatment.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 6 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

No because immigrants are the scapegoat for the the rich stealing our lunch.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 0 points 23 hours ago

If it were just that, he'd say plastic surgery or something.

[–] gibmiser@lemmy.world 5 points 23 hours ago

Nonono, we don't want people who are in the "bad" group to get better, we want them to die.

It also makes sense if you subtract empathy from the picture. Sprinkle on a little "zero-sum game" with respect to tax money and it tracks even better.

[–] wolfpack86@lemmy.world 6 points 18 hours ago

Let me guess... They have ten patients and only 1 is an illegal alien?

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 15 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

The richest country in the world and we can't be bothered to help people in our own country, we need that money to bail out corporate losses. How do the conservative, and the Democrats sheep for that matter, not realize this situation.

[–] lonefighter@sh.itjust.works 12 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

"We can't help people in other countries, we need to spend that money helping the people at home!"

"We can't help those people at home, they're illegal! We need to spend our money on our own citizens."

"Those people are legal but they don't deserve to be helped, they're poor which means they are lazy, if they want their circumstances to improve they should get an education and a real job and pull themselves up by their bootstraps like all good Americans before them!"

"We have to give these corporations billions to bail them out, if we don't our entire economy will crumble and normal people will suffer. You don't want that now do you? No they aren't going to raise pay and yes some layoffs may still occur, they're struggling, ok? Stop complaining about the raise their CEO just got, he's working hard to get them through this rough time!"

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 8 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 4 points 23 hours ago

Let me know when you need more fly agaric, I am here for you.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

You can safely assume it's all lies when coming from Republicans, until there is an actual verifiable source

[–] Damage@feddit.it 3 points 18 hours ago

Significant claims require significant proof, no matter where they're coming from

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 7 points 23 hours ago

What the fuck is this asshole in my state for?

[–] bus_factor@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

How many of those were victims of human trafficking? And how many would have avoided HIV altogether if they had access to preventative care like PrEP?

[–] KC_Royalz@lemmy.world 28 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

This guy is going to kill someone publicly. Probably already has privately. just a matter of time

[–] ProfThadBach@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This fucking MAGA mini-me can't just fucking retire and disappear. His parents live in Blowing Rock, NC and he as enough money to retire there and live a good quiet life. However, being the chucklefuck that he is he thinks that he can outlive his 15 mins of fame. It is the same with all of these blovines who are angry because their daddies did not hung them.

[–] PlantJam@lemmy.world 13 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Little Freudian slip at the end there.

[–] ProfThadBach@lemmy.world 9 points 22 hours ago

I will leave that slip as it is.

[–] MrSelfDestruct@quokk.au 6 points 23 hours ago

Too bad their moms umbilical cord didn't hang them.

[–] Arrandee@lemmy.world 38 points 1 day ago

Chef’s kiss that his rank was Stabschef and he died on the night of the long knives

[–] starik@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I thought you were referring to a different guy.

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

My thoughts exactly

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

I don't know; that last name? Is that really a fully MERIKAN name? It doesn't sound quite WASP-y enough.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 21 hours ago

Go... rogue?

So he's the American Prigohzin?

[–] plz1@lemmy.world 9 points 23 hours ago

Wasn't he retiring? Go play golf, you fucking psychopath.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

Ousted Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino is threatening to start his own mass deportation operation as he rages against his old bosses.

This seems like a situation that might resolve itself if somebody decides to defend themself from a freelance human trafficker.

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 7 points 1 day ago

This guy reminds me of Ernst Röhm

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Once clear of DHS, Bovino dumped on the Trump administration, saying “When things get a little too dicey, it seems that some cut and run.”

He said, shortly after retiring in disgrace because he was afraid he would get fired...
