i initially read this as "middle ages" (like the 5th century) and was so confused

[–] Swemg@lemmy.world 23 points 2 months ago

I mean, clean sheets night would have been rare I think? So it might work too ^^

[–] Tess@piefed.blahaj.zone 11 points 2 months ago

You’re not the only one.

I thought I was looking at a history meme and was expecting to find an explanation on how clean sheet night was some kind of medieval tradition :)

[–] LePoisson@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

I read it that way too and thought, "well they probably didn't do laundry a lot back then, clean sheets would be something to look forward to"

[–] orbitz@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 months ago

I'll be honest I wasn't quite getting the comments cause I didn't think the middle ages had nearly as clean sheets even being a king.....yeah read the same way. Makes way more sense now.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 26 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It does. But not enough to change my sheets anywhere near often enough.

[–] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

That just makes it more exciting!

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I used to love clean sheets nights in my early years. I still do in my middle years, but I used to, too

[–] cpaq47@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Mitch Hedberg spotted in the wild. Have an upvote.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 13 points 2 months ago (7 children)

Ok I have to ask. How often do you guys change your sheets?

[–] Longmactoppedup@aussie.zone 15 points 2 months ago

Usually at least twice for ethical reasons.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 8 points 2 months ago

Depends on the season, but roughly every 10 days

[–] clucose@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 months ago

once a month

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

About once a week, or whenever they start feeling too grimy to comfortably sleep in (I’ve got sensitive skin.)

[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Your sheets feel grimy after a week or so? Do you have a very physical job?

I'm pretty sedentary, and I'm not even sure I could tell when my sheets need cleaning by feel. I wash them ever couple of weeks or so because I'm guessing they've absorbed some body oils by then, but not such that I can see or feel it.

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Not really, it's a sensory thing. Mildly greasy sheets will make me feel itchy. As much as I loathe going to the laundromat, it's usually the bedsheets that spur me to go do laundry even when I still have clean clothes to wear.

[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

Ah, makes sense.

[–] MJKee9@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Every two weeks. I was wondering the same thing, so thanks for asking. How about you?

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago

When I was younger, at least twice a week. Now, every week, but just the fitted.

[–] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I'm an every 2 weeks guy but i aspire to be an every week guy, kind of feels better and sounds better. I guess that shows that there's a tolersnce limit - 1week to 3weeks on one set of bedding

Squibbity-blabbity-boo! They’re now a grilled cheese sandwich!

Thanks, Night Ranger!

[–] 666dollarfootlong@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm not even middle aged yet, more like quarter, aged and I find fresh sheets awesome

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago

Hell, I loved it when I was a kid, too

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 months ago (3 children)

What is with all these memes about middle-aged people only just now discovering the tiny joys of life? Clean sheet night excited me when I was fucking 12…

[–] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 months ago

Your just an old soul.... or something.

[–] LadyButterfly@reddthat.com 3 points 1 month ago

Me. I'm behind them. In related news I'm middle aged

[–] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I guess people who are middle aged now used to do drugs throughout their late adolesence and young adulthood. Edit: and therefore don't appreciate the little things like clean bedsheets. Uncompleted thought, lol.

[–] MyTurtleSwimsUpsideDown@fedia.io 10 points 2 months ago

Might spoil myself and change the sheets tonight.

[–] 13igTyme@piefed.social 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

1 in 3 people only change their sheets once a year.

[–] Drekaridill@lemmy.wtf 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

For my own sanity I'm not going to believe that

[–] 13igTyme@piefed.social 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

UK: https://metro.co.uk/2020/10/16/a-third-of-people-only-wash-their-bed-sheets-once-a-year-13431864/

USA with additional metrics: https://bestlifeonline.com/clean-sheets-bedding/

However, these are surveys and for all we know respondents could just be fucking with the people asking the survey.

[–] zout@fedia.io 4 points 2 months ago

respondents could just be fucking with the people asking the survey

That would make the sheets even more gross. (I'll see myself out)

[–] dance_ninja@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

A freshly shaved face + clean sheets is such a great experience.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It just makes my back hurt trying to put a sheet on a king sized bed. Much less trying to flip that thing.

[–] Apeman42@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Got a bad back? Gonna hurt it.

Pick your bed up, flip it and reverse it.

[–] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Clean sheet night has excited me since i was a teenager. I essentially negotiated a "stay out of my room, mom!!" Status quo, then realised how often my bed was getting changed by her. It's a faff. And many people naturally don't do it as much as they shoukd do. In fact i think i'll change it tomorrow morning, just thinking about it.

But yeah, a clean sheet helps you sleep way better.

But also having an unmade bed exposed to air and sunlight is good for cleaning the sheet of microorganisms (bacteria)

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Ever since we had to let the servants go, clean sheets are our most tangible and practical way to enjoy a clean place.

[–] spittingimage@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Nothing better than clean sheet night and a new spatula.

[–] LadyButterfly@reddthat.com 2 points 1 month ago

Oh yeah baby

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I hate it because then I have to fight with the fitted sheet to get it on in the right orientation lol

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago

No! That excited me in my youth too!

[–] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 months ago

Every other Thursday. Just a couple more days!
