"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Seeing this... this is what really old people must feel like when they begin any kind of serious cognitive decline. The world starts looking strange, familiar but somehow wrong, and everyone just acts like this is normal. Things used to make sense, but now everything seems stupid and devoid of meaning and context.

[–] lemmyng@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Everyone has to act like it's normal or else the person with cognitive decline can become very destructive very quickly.

[–] binarytobis@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

I get that feeling all the time now, to the point where I honestly ask myself if I’m personally in cognitive decline.

For instance, in the next top level comment after yours someone misspelled the subject of their sentence as β€œget” (presumably instead of β€œthey”) and I stumbled over the sentence a couple of times before understanding that β€œget” shouldn’t be in there at all. No one else acknowledges it, so I ask myself several times β€œI didn’t misread this, it’s incorrect right? Is it me?”

Between AI images, rampant misspellings, understandable ESL snafus, and people just saying full blown gibberish or bizarre political views, I’m hit with something perplexing about once per minute of reading, which has me really considering my mental health.

The article is wrong that Shatner never wore a tie in Trek.

And not to mention Wrath of Khan:

[–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 week ago

Oh shit. It took multiple pictures for me to realize that was Shatner.

This is hilarious, why didn't get just use the many existing original posters?

[–] Vittelius@feddit.org 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Probably because of personalisation. I assume the idea is to eventually present you a hyper targeted advertismebt of a poster (if they aren't already).

[–] Kirk@startrek.website 2 points 1 week ago

Good point! It's probably some weird A/B testing.

Or, if they just wanted to get a shot of Kirk from this movie, they could screenshot any of the tens of thousands of frames of him from that very movie, which they own and for which they are making the thumbnail.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

fucking hell thats supposed to be KIRK? fuck.

I feel like this is malicious compliance on the part of the designer they asked to do this

I made a poster for the m4 fan edit of the hobbit for myself in gimp in an hour and it looked better than this slop.

[–] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

How is it? Where can we get it? I only saw the first one and it was steaming pile of shit.

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The 3 hobbit films certainly were, the m4 edit makes it a lot more watchable.

[–] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm dumb. How do I watch (preferably d/l?)?

Excited for this!

Edit: To prove my original point, this was intitially a reply-to-self.

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I would use a torrent, and a VPN, and a DNS that doesn't track.

A good source for this info can be found here. https://wiki.dbzer0.com/piracy/megathread/

The links for the torrent are on the page I linked.

[–] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thanks, honestly my issue was not seeing the torrent links at the top or bottom of the page. Found them!

Now just have to see if I can squeeze the mp4 onto a dual layer DVD. A media server is in my future, but it's all direct-to-DVD for now.

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 1 points 1 week ago

I think it is designed to be burned onto a bluray

[–] KraeuterRoy@feddit.org 8 points 1 week ago

If only there was some, perhaps bespoke, piece of art with which one could present or advertise a movie to potential viewers...

[–] chtk@feddit.nl 5 points 1 week ago

I didn't know Michael Shannon is in Wrath of Kahn.

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

phew thankfully it hasn't rolled out to my "paramount plus" yet. :3

"a jellyfin collection showing the star trek movies with actual thumbnails"

[–] heartSagan5@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

That Wrath of Khan ought to have Ricardo Montalban as THE Khan Noonian Singh.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I wouldn't know I canceled my Paramount+ subscription the moment they embraced the fascism.
