Completely obsessed again with The Expanse. I thought 2 weeks ago to take a peek at one episode and am in the midst of my 2nd complete rewatch since then.

Also teasing myself for the backrooms

The books are amazing too! One of the few show adaptation that actually does them justice and even improves in some ways.

[–] Yondoza@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The final conclusion of the books is far more satisfying than the show ending. Other than that, I completely agree.

[–] rockerface@lemmy.cafe 2 points 5 days ago

To be fair, the show did not have an actual ending, they just kinda stopped after the 6th book. Which isn't actually the worst place, considering it's followed by a big timeskip.

Mi tenye da Belte ere kori!

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago

excellent show. I've watched a few times, but unfortunately I've found on the last couple that it doesn't necessarily hold up as well as I remember

still a great show tho

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 18 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Just started watching Andor with my wife, and it's surprisingly excellent. Like, it revolves entirely about antiimperialist themes and is well written, well directed, well acted, the effects look fantastic.

Oh and for anyone else confused, Andor is NOT the planet on which episode 6 takes place ! the one with the teddy bears ? That's Endor with an E. Andor is actually the name of the main guy in the show.

[–] TypFaffke@feddit.org 6 points 5 days ago

I was so confused about that 😅

[–] hOrni@lemmy.world 16 points 6 days ago (1 children)

And the show is "Backrooms"?

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Is that where the capture is from ?

[–] hOrni@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago

I think it's from the movie based on the series.

Mr Inbetween

Incredible show. Reminds me a bit of Breaking Bad.

[–] __hetz@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago

I took a break from my X-Files binge to watch Mr. Inbetween. I thought it was phenomenal, if not a bit short. The YouTube algo kept pushing it on me so, when I finally caved, I was surprised to find out the episodes were only about 23m (half hour with commercials). The vibe I got, from the clips, was that episodes would certainly be hour-block to contain and meaningfully convey everything they had to. In reality the story is just very fat-free and told well. It parallels Ray's spartan demeanor. I wish it was longer, and it easily could have been, but it wrapped up properly before it had any chance of going downhill.

I'm not sure about obsessed, but my partner and I have started watching Stargate SG1 recently! I've been looking forward to our daily episode. Some really cool concepts in each episode, though it does seem to follow a formula of: the team finds some cool tech that could enhance our understanding of the universe, some crazy event happens that threatens the life of a crew member, the cool tech has to be sacrificed to save the team member. Not sure if that's just season 1 and it gets a bit more nuanced further on?

[–] dev_null@lemmy.ml 9 points 6 days ago

There is definitely more multi-episode storylines and progression as the show goes on, but the problem remains that most of the time they can't really keep amazing tech they find, because it would solve too many problems or make things boring.

It does occasionally happen though. Over the seasons they do accrue an impressive collection of tech which does carry over and is used in episodes going forward.

As with most scifi shows of this era, it really hits its stride in season 3. Hang in there, the first two seasons aren't horrible, you get to know the characters and the lore and it sets you up for greatness.

The Legend of Vox Machina's 4th season recently started, so I've gotten back into that

[–] EldenLord@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Oh wow that‘s crazy! I missed that somehow thanks.

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I finally started watching Resident Alien, and I'm about halfway through S3. I am a sucker for both sci-fi and Northern Exposure-ish shows where a fish out of water is dropped into a quirky and isolated community, so I don't really know how I waited so long, but it does mean I don't have to worry about it getting canceled on a cliffhanger.

As an aside, I watched S1 on a TV with "soap opera vision" motion interpolation turned on, and JFC I forgot how cheap and awful it makes everything look.

[–] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 4 points 5 days ago (2 children)

S4 is coming to Netflix this week! Super excited. Alan Tudyk is funnier than I thought he was gonna be. No hate to him. I love the show. It's quirky and campy in the right way.

The mayor and his wife, the sheriff, and my main babe D'arcy. D'arcy is awesome and I have no idea how she is able to do all those things. She owns the bar, does rescue mountaineering crap, and is the town drunk. I'm sure I'm forgetting things. How strong is this woman? I remember her climbing up an ice wall while helping someone out of a cave in.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Don't forget her former skiing career!

And I don't think Alan Tudyk is capable of being anything other than funny. I find new things to watch by checking his imdb page at this point.

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Also a solid defensive catcher on the baseball team.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

All the love to Tudyk (i have a short list of actors who i will watch whatever they do and he is on it), but I was legitimately surprised how well the rest of the cast elevated their performances to match his energy. It was very well cast.

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

It reminds me of 30 Rock in that sense, where you can imagine some of these people will become respected names, but some will never deliver a performance as good again for their entire careers.

Widow's Bay. It has everything I want, it is tightly packaged in 35mins bouts and every episode has been excellent.

Fantastic combination of horror and comedy.

[–] digger@lemmy.ca 7 points 5 days ago

Another one for Widow's Bay! Beach Reads was a masterpiece.

Started watching Widows Bay.

For any of you who like David Lynch's quirky characters and absurdity, you will like this show. Great cast too. Lovecraft lore.

There is this scene in the first episode that hooked me.

A museum tour guide is showing this guy around and talking about the town's history and at one point there is a wall depicting burning witches and she says something like:
"Oh that's a bit of the town's pride. we found all the witches and burned them".

It just gets better with every episode. Apple tv but I pirate everything so.

Also

Currently watching:

From season 4.

The terror season 3.

Rick and Morty season 9

Just watched The Burroughs . Was decent. And The Burbs remake series. Also decent.

Nothing exceptional but I like quirky casts and it has that guy from "dream corp llc" and "what we do in the shadows". I really like his character. He does the same character in everything but I still dig it.

Rick and Morty season 9

The first two episodes have been great! Hope they can keep it up.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Yeah I thought so too.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Wonder if they'll get to go see that red sox game. Somehow I doubt it.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

That's what I was thinking

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The acting is really good, especially the mayor. The story feels a little disjointed at times but I really like it.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

I loved that party episode.

The twist really caught me off guard.

Back when Supernatural was current I encountered a cashier who had the antipossession tattoo visible. I asked them whether it was from the show. I expected them to be happy that it was recognized but they just gave me a funny look and said "yeah."

Didn't say much of anything after that. I mean, I was making a purchase so it wasn't a close social interaction anyway.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (2 children)

In the final season of Fringe and have no clue how I slept on it for so long

[–] 007ace@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I've rewatched it twice since its initial run. It's just short enough that nothing is really dragged out and most of the plot points are resolved etc. Not like X-files which is my main comparator to fringe

Me when they don't like the show I'm obsessed with:

[–] EldenLord@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

That guy was so, so creepy. The costume guys did a great job with this movie, I think there wasn‘t even any VFX used. Wild stuff!

[–] BeUnique@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Venture Bro's? Never had happened and most likely never will unless I'm at some sort of expo for nerds like myself.

[–] ClownStatue@piefed.social 2 points 5 days ago

OMG, you like Venture Brothers?

[–] dditty@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Just finished DTG St. Louis and I really enjoyed it! Only laughed out loud once or twice, but it is a really unique, poignant, compelling drama
