12.5% still beats most Christians though.

Literally Christians that only read New Testament

[–] Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world 27 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Hey now, many of them read none of it and instead half-listen to sermons where a priest extrapolates a ridiculous amount from a few scant lines of text.

The modern classic.

Not true. They pick and choose verses from the old testament to back up their hypocrisy.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 weeks ago

They read those on Facebook though, not from a bible

[–] Calfpupa@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Thats a different, much larger, group

I grew up in it. What was preached was the new testament. What was practiced was the old. Its the magas, The evangelicals, and the fanatics. They speak the words of the New testament but do not follow the teachings of jesus in their personal life. They pick self serving passages from the old testament to justify their hypocrisies. They are judgmental, hostile toward strangers and the furthest thing from peaceful and tolerant you can be. Exactly the opposite of the new testament. What was that thing RINO. They are CINO. Christian In Name Only.

They are far from the largest group. Just the loudest.

Same, I grew up in a christian cult that got shut down (but reformed under a different name). Glad you got out

Years ago I heard a cult described as a small unpopular reliigion and a religion as a large popular cult. The concept has stuck with me.

100% accurate

A lot of them read too much Old Testament. They get off on this angry vengeful god who fucks everyone’s shit up on whims and pedantic draconian laws. They gloss over all the Jesus shit about being kind to one another.

[–] Calfpupa@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 weeks ago

From my experience, they don't so much as read it as repeat what their pastor/priest say.

[–] Sharkticon@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Hell, i wish christians only read the new testament.

[–] Calfpupa@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago

They exist but are far and few between.

[–] gothic_lemons@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

What 1/8? I prefer just the articles and pronouns. Maybe an adjective or two if I'm feeling adventurous.

[–] curiousaur@reddthat.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

Is this a joke about the Jefferson Bible?

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 2 points 2 weeks ago

More like somebody who believes in 12.5% of the bible, no?
