I would normally say this is a parental issue. However, the quirky combinations of vitamin b, caffeine, massive amounts of sugar combined with whatever else is even slightly rumored to boost energy should be, at minimum, slightly regulated for youth.

I am not doing deep-dive research for this comment, but I would speculate that the above drinks are simply not healthy for developing bodies and brains.

I also suspect that the biggest issues are with lack of moderation.

High levels of caffeine have been associated with brain development issues, particularly acute in pubescent brain development. You are correct on the "moderation" bit. A little pick-me up isn't going to kill you. A 12 year old shotgunning a Monster every day for breakfast can impede the development of executive function regions of the prefrontal cortex.

Which part of the brain controls critical thinking and empathy ?

Critical thinking is prefrontal cortex. Empathy is mostly amygdala, which matures more in late teens early 20s.
