The picture of the white house in front of the white house somehow gives me a powerful message: everything in this place is fake, nothing is well thought out.

Like he wanted to have his redneck show in front of the house and then someone told him "uh sir we can't actually see the white house from there, there's all your UFC stuff in front of it". "Oh. Meh, put a picture".

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 months ago (3 children)

As a hick, please don't call this Redneck it's below even our standards on average and also tends to at least be cheap. Call it classless white trash profligacy.

We didn't need a sequel to idiocracy.

[–] AlternatePersonMan@lemmy.world 46 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This is more of a prequel.

Seriously let's let Terry Crews wrestle Trump for the presidency.

Hold on now, this is the prequel!

[–] Eheran@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Exactly what I was thinking about. President Camacho approves.

[–] Jiral@lemmy.world 27 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Camacho understood there was a problem, he found the most competent person to solve that problem, promoted him and gave him the resources to solve the problem, and managed to solve that existantial problem this way. Sounds nothing like what the Trump administration would ever do.

I would far rather have a president camacho. But to be fair they only got him after centuries of decline

[–] shweddy@lemmy.world 65 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Is that a picture of the white house on scaffolding?

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 37 points 2 months ago (2 children)

No, there's a scaffold in front of the WH to support the asinine UFC fights tonight (and the stands for those). It's a temporary structure, theoretically (though of course, Dear Leader has floated the idea "as a joke" of just keeping it in place permanently "for other events".)

[–] adarza@piefed.ca 10 points 2 months ago (3 children)

for other events

i can think of one or two.........

My non-american mind failed to understand why a picture of seemingly the white house is infront of the white house?

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 23 points 2 months ago

The view from there is currently blocked by the UFC ring they’ve been building for a couple weeks now

[–] 0ops@piefed.zip 36 points 2 months ago (5 children)

Damn it nitro circus. I used to think you guys were cool when I was a kid

[–] iamerror710@feddit.online 16 points 2 months ago

That’s where I’m at. I used to play as Deegan on Freekstyle all the time. Nitro Circus is dead to me now.

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago

Motorsport politics is like Russian Roulette with a semi-auto, unfortunately.

The guys who created Idiocracy should create a documentary style “prequel” showing how Trump leads us down the path to Idiocracy.

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

“I mean, in a way Idiocracy kind of looks optimistic right now,” Mike Judge tells The Daily Beast by phone from his Los Angeles office.

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

At least the president in that movie gave a shit about his people.

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

Someone else mentioned that he also hired the most qualified person and provided the resources to solve an existential problem.

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 9 points 2 months ago

Yes, we live in a world where dystopian stories from just a few decades ago are looking good.

Some countries have universal healthcare paid by their tax dollars instead of roller rink cheeto's circus.

Some countries have no homeless because their tax dollars help the citizenry instead of lining the orange criminal's pockets.

Some countries feed their children so that no child goes hungry in the midst of plenty.

Some countries don't have a fucking fascist shitbag lying and stealing and grabbing anything not nailed down.

We are in a fucking idiocracy. This is exactly the type of stuff that was in that movie.

When's he going to have the whole building painted gold? I mean, The Gold House would be much classier than The White House.

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

I hope he never sees this comment.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Just wait until he cheats the 2026 elections, and suddenly his party controls 2/3rds of everything, including the power to do just that.

In Rome, and other empires, when an Emperor was this egregiously bad, they would not only forcibly depose him, but also tear down all of his statues, works, scratch out his name from documents and dedications, and consign his memory to the garbage bin of history.

For all of their faults, they appeared to have far more courage than our current populations.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

they appeared to have far more courage than our current populations.

This.

We're going to go down in history as pathetic. That'll be our legacy through time.

To be fair, this would be way more dangerous to do on a high-speed train

[–] wieson@feddit.org 11 points 2 months ago

No panem but circensis that you have to buy tickets for.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 10 points 2 months ago

High speed fail.

OMFG this is real?! I thought the pictures were satire! Satire!!

Retarded is a word we cannot use anymore according to reddit and lemmy admins. I don't understand why because I always used it to mean this sort of thing and not to refer to anyone's particular mental or genetic issues. But you can call this stupid. It just doesn't feel the same.

[–] fakeman_pretendname@feddit.uk 10 points 2 months ago (3 children)

How would you feel about calling such things "Republican" or "Trumpy"?

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 8 points 2 months ago (5 children)

Maybe it is time to transition the meaning to a new word! Good idea. It hits like fresh santorum. I already call old people presidential.... "People of a certain presidential age"

If this event was held in a field just outside town I would be looking super forward to it. You watch next they are going to do a tractor pull and mud races

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Why not both?

Edit: To be clear I meant bike jumping not celebrating the orange pedo in any way.

[–] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Because I don't want my tax money being used to celebrate a pedophile's birthday.

We've been 'building' a high speed rail route here in the UK for over a decade now. It'll probably not be finished for another 10 years, isn't going to reach as many cities as first planned, will probably cost as much as m**k is worth by the end, tickets will likeky cost you three legs and you'll no doubt always arrive at your destination late!

I get your point, but don't get too jealous of the idea!!

[–] Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 months ago (6 children)

That's due to corruption, not because ~~AVEs~~ high speed rails are hard to build (and the UK is much flatter than Spain..)
