The information I have seen leads me to believe that something really fucking bad is about to happen, and WW3 is about to kick off for real.

  • Canada and the US are still far apart on any "deal" that would see the tariffs go away, and Canadians likely are never going back even if the relationship thawed politically.

  • Trump renamed the "Department of Defense", to the "Department of War"

  • Trump is currently sending troops to Portland. (I believe I read it was close to 1,800. Please correct me if wrong)

  • Days later, Trump starts talking 51st state bullshit again.

  • Let us not forget that Putin and Trump are friends, and any issues between them are 100% performative.

Meanwhile:

  • China seems to be readying an attack on Taiwan.

  • China has been observed in our Arctic waters.

  • China is also buying up anything they can to get rights to our rare earth minerals.

Meanwhile:

  • Russia has also been poking around the Arctic.

  • Russia has been invading NATO airspace for some time now, specifically around where the leaders will gathered this week.

  • Reports of Russia potentially opening up a NATO front in the war with Ukraine.

Meanwhile:

  • Russia, China, and North Korea are in an open alliance.

  • North Korea has been pushing some boundaries recently with South Korea.

I am missing a lot because I am just pulling from my memory (As an example the Saudi/Pakistan treaty that I didn't read into enough) but it just looks like this is it. I am not trying to be an alarmist, but I don't see these signals going any other way than directly to Global war.

Russia, China, and North Korea are in an open alliance.

That's a bit dramatic. They agreed to some deals, and wrote a press statement about how they're BFFs. There's still no way in hell Russia trusts either, and so vice verse, and NK/China relations are a whole weird thing. Ditto for India and China, which have made the impressive step of no longer openly beating each other with literal sticks over territory.

But yes, there are many, many powder kegs waiting to go off. The only question is if it could actually go hot, or it will stop at proxy wars, espionage and tradefare like the last time.

North Korea and Russia have a military alliance as North Korean soldiers were fighting in Ukraine with Russia under Russian control.

I agree that it is a press statement being BFFs, but China has been supporting Russia's war efforts with Russia saying they would also support Chinese war efforts. It is definitely a weird alliance, and they most certainly do not trust each other, but they are clearly working together to be a counter to "Western" influence and are likely going to increase military, intelligence, and trade ties.

I hope that it stops at proxy wars, espionage, and tradefare. I just do not see it as likely given the climate.

OK I get it but you know my state would make a great provence.

[–] IndridCold@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 hour ago

Hey USA. Your boy is on the front lawn in his diapers eating dog shit again. Maybe collect him before he gets away?

Yea time to start playing with switches at Niagara substations around the time the stock market opens again... Wonder how much that would wipe off the market

Trump's latest remarks come only days after Pete Hoekstra, the U.S. ambassador to Canada, said it's Canadians who are fixated on the 51st state talk, and that sort of rhetoric is now in the past.

We Canadians just knew Trump would keep babbling about it.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 14 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

oh look, another few years added to how long it will be before I consider going back there

[–] jaemo@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 hours ago

I don't know what math you're using but adding more to infinity is beyond my cognitive capacity.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 7 points 4 hours ago

No need to come to the US. Hegseth wants to bring the US to you.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 22 points 5 hours ago

And Canada, once again tells Trump to "get fucked".

These idiots can't even keep their bullshit consistent.

Hoekstra can't keep his bullshit consistent with his own bullshit a few seconds ago when he denied his previous bullshit after being called out on his bullshit being bullshit.

Fuck Trump, fuck the USA. We will never be a state.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

That's right. We'd be a territory. πŸ˜…

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

I actually think he means statehood, since he very noticeably never offered it to the less-traditionally-white nation of Greenland.

It's still a booby deal in several other ways.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 hours ago

Nah we’d be a β€œprotectorate” like Guam, Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands. Plus a neverending insurgency for good measure. πŸ–•πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έβ™ΎοΈ

No Name goose

[–] Undearius@lemmy.ca 18 points 5 hours ago

Wait, I thought we had a fentanyl problem. Why would he want that?

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 23 points 6 hours ago

This fucking clown.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 10 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

This won't stop. There's too much money to be made to let it go. If we shift to the right, it's gonna get worse.

[–] happy_wheels@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Yet another distraction....

[–] DonkMagnum@lemy.lol 14 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Or, maybe it's not (just) distraction. Maybe he is seeding interest amongst the Canadian magatards. Maybe this is designed to give traction to Dani Smith and her ilk, to create division and internal strife.

Maybe Trump and the repubs have been following a playbook for all his Canada talk... maybe Putin's playbook on Ukraine.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 hours ago

I think this is definitely a part of it.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth -1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

No it isn't. This is an offer you can't refuse.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 7 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Steadfastly. Without pause. Ad infinitum.

[–] LemUrun@pawb.social 2 points 3 hours ago

Oh fucking hell...

[–] piskertariot@lemmy.world 10 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Canada should fast track nuclear armament.

We have the tech, we have zero reason not to.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 hours ago

CANDU doesn't use enriched uranium. So unlike other nuclear powered countries we haven't built enrichment capacity necessary for power and weapons.

Worse, the new SMR projects being built make us dependent on the US for fuel since they use enriched uranium.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 4 points 4 hours ago

Well, we have treaties. With countries other than the United States.

Might still be worth gearing up to breach them if need be, though. I suspect most of them will understand.

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 12 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

I’m floating Cascadia joining up with Canada.

[–] NotSteve_@piefed.ca 10 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

I feel like they'd do better as territories. Even the more left leaning US states have a very different political culture that I wouldn't want imported into Canada

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 12 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

They should just be independent countries for a while and see how that goes before they even consider asking to move in with someone else.

[–] NotSteve_@piefed.ca 4 points 4 hours ago

Totally agree

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 hours ago
[–] ohellidk@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 hours ago

That'd be nice.

I mean, the Presidents are at 47 and States have not gone above 50 as long as most remember. The last time the numbers were this close, there was a civil war.

Still, why not start with DC and Puerto Rico, am I right?

[–] Justoboy98@lemmy.ca 5 points 5 hours ago

Hopefully he doesn’t know anything about war plan red….
