No, me a few days before I moved out! πŸ˜ƒ

Hey, that's not true! Everybody knows landlords only use white paint

[–] pandora@lemmy.blahaj.zone 38 points 1 day ago (1 children)

also most landlords would not do this themselves, but get someone else to do it for them

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Most people equate the property manager and landlord anymore. My landlord was technically some faceless company, but Tom's shitty ass got the moniker because he's the asshole I had to call to get my heating fixed multiple times (at least until he was replaced). Not sure how you can fuck up radiator heating that much, but man, they made a go of it.

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

It's symptomatic that Tom got replaced before the heating system

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No, my first place was literally that color.

I had to repaint it myself.

[–] Dookieman12@piefed.social 4 points 1 day ago

Ew, gross. My condolences. Glad it was your first place and not your current place.

It’s not a landlord special unless it’s got some bugs caught in layers of white paint.

[–] Exusia@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Your Command strip accidentally breaks the paint and underneath is more layers of fucking paint - not drywall

When I first took down the Venetian blinds the mount at the top wouldn’t come down even after removing the screws. I had forgotten about landlord paint logic and just tore it down and like 16 different layers of paint peeled off.

I bought my house recently from a guy who had been renting it out for the last 40 years. He painted everything before putting it on the market but I didn't like the color. When I started the prep work for repainting, everything he put up peeled off like shelf paper. I was denouncing him as a total moron until the paint I put up did the same thing. In one room I even painted the walls and when I came back the next morning the paint had all flowed down to the floor and ruined the carpet.

Turns out the last tenant was a smoker and the walls were coated with nicotine. Had to wipe the whole house down with mineral spirits to get paint to stick.

Also cabinets painted shut and paint over the knobs and hardware on all the doors.

[–] RaccoonBall@lemmy.ca 2 points 7 hours ago

And over the electrical outlets

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

I really hate paint on hinges more than anything else. It is so ridiculously easy to unscrew a door first. Maybe it's justifiable for exterior doors if you can't leave the property unsecured while the paint dries, but there's no excuse for interior doors.

[–] ChexMax@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

When you're getting paid per job (by a landlord) you don't waste time removing doors. There's no "pride in your work" either. The AC doesn't get turned on until next week. Sometimes the water doesn't either, so every extra minute there sucks.

You also just follow whatever the last guy did. If I'm first, I cut in fixtures. It's just as fast as covering them in paint.

[–] FollyDolly@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

You can also just put tape over the hinges and cut them out with a boxcutter and then paint. You can leave the cabinets up and still not paint the hinges. There's really no excuse.

I'm living this right this very now.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You're going to cry when you chop them up?

[–] X@piefed.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Just stick β€˜em in the freezer for a few minutes before you chop β€˜em up

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Genuine question, would you like help organizing a tenant union?

[–] Phantaloons@piefed.zip 5 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

evicts everyone and refills the place within in a year

This actually happened at my mom's old place.

[–] Okokimup@lemmy.world 5 points 17 hours ago

I appreciate the offer but definitely not a thing I want to do right now.

The mold can’t hurt you if it’s covered in a thick layer of cheap paint!

I’ve painted it 6 times in every unit, but I’m sure it’s not systemic.

[–] Raccoon_Rick@altgag.net 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And then I’m doing the same after moving in because they did a shit job

Hate when black seeps through, use a good primer LoL

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Yeah this happened in the bathroom. Some corners have been flaking for a while but fuck me if I can be bothered to do anything about it.

[–] iThinkDifferentThanU@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Had one say just spray with some bleach

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Not bleach. Something like this should do the trick.
