MODERATORS
Ngl, the Dems played into it hook, line, and sinker.
They could have redirected the conversation to actual life changing policy for the majority of citizens, but instead they leaned into it because it was easier and didn't risk corporate funding.
When you call them out on it, the excuse is predictably some version of "we're doing it because they did it first", using hate speech as the example.

The right wields culture war bullshit to silence discussion, and then blames negative outcomes (you can't talk to people any more) on the left
Leftists tend to want to talk about popular economic issues, ie. Universal healthcare, raising the minimum wage, taxing the rich, child care etc. think Zohrans affordability campaign.
Right wingers know their stances on these are unpopular so they will switch the discussion to some dumb culture war issue like you can't say r*tarded any more. Now leftists are forced to explain why using a slur is bad which starts a debate that is more 50/50 for the right and derails discussion of policies that would actually effect the material conditions of your average person.
They are perpetually playing the victim of "wokeness" (which they can't define in any meaningful way) so that any attempt to discuss real issues that affect our actually daily lives, like cost of living, like public services, like crime and law enforcement, none of it can get an edge in because they're too busy clutching pearls over two girls kissing. They don't just not have a plan to fix anything, they like that it's broken because it makes them very wealthy taking advantage of people.
