He doesn't want to upset any of those centrist Republicans that don't exist because he thinks he can win them over.

[–] MushuChupacabra@piefed.world 19 points 14 hours ago

Sweep him aside.

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago

Hakeem Jefferies is a problem. Maybe if we get rid of chuck schumer, we can get rid of his hospice nurse?

best we can do is return ACA subsidies, and undo GOP harm.

As minority leader, he's the favorite to be the house leader should Dems gain majority in November. House leader has a lot of control in preventing proposals from coming to the house.

I don't support medicare for all

Impeaching Trump is only path to getting any legislation not vetoed, and then impeaching any replacements likely needed too. Returning ACA subsidies may be something that is a horse trade for other deficit wreckage, but his answer was not that "medicare for all is not a realistic law we can pass before 2028" It was what I quoted.

His name seems to always be connected to the wrong side of bettering society. Maybe that should be addressed next election. So wish we had a universal fast track way from local to President to call for no confidence when they repeatedly work against the public good.

Every establishment fuck has got to go. Every single one of them. I don't care if they fein support. Aipac does not wash off.

Uncle Tom said what?

If this is the opposition party, we are doomed. This alone is not the five alarm fire, but Jeffries is obviously not going to be a fighter after they steal the midterms.

I encourage everyone to vote early take some time off of work after November 3rd and go to DC like I have planned. There’s no getting out of this without us dying for it.

Jefferies has a leadership position because it was held two weeks before the DNC chair.

If someone like Jamie Harrison (Feb 2021-Feb 2025 chair named by Biden) became chair, then not voting Jefferies/Schumer would have caused the biased DNC to withhold the stolen funds from the Victory Fund....

That's why they're "leadership".

However the voting members of the DNC got to vote because we didn't have an incoming dem president. So...

When they picked Martin, and he dumped all that money on state parties with zero strings, Schumer and Jefferies lost all their political power.

Jefferies and Schumer's only shot at returning neoliberals to the DNC, is if a progressive Dem doesn't become president in 2029. That's why they want you to leave the party, even if a Republican wins after Trump because of it.

If a progressive becomes president in 2029, they name the DNC chair, and that's game over for neoliberalism.

For the love of anything you care about, stop telling people the time to give up is right before we win.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 4 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

I'll admit that I don't understand the inner workings of the Democratic Party, but I want to say: It's not that neoliberals control the money because they run/ran the DNC, but that the DNC had money because it was controlled by neoliberals. This money ultimately comes from donors, who give it to neoliberals no matter what post those neoliberals currently hold. To a first approximation, the more progressive the party is, the less money it gets, with the difference going to neoliberals directly. The point being: The neoliberals' political comes from their rich backers (and the media connections of those rich backers), not from their party posts, so while their power would be diminished by losing control of the party they'd be far from done for.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 5 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

The bribes would stop rolling in if they were no longer getting them anything

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 7 points 14 hours ago

You underestimate the dedication of the rich to fucking over everyone else. They'd just rethink their strategy and try again. Not to say it's hopeless, but that the givesomefucks is being too optimistic about the fate of neoliberalism. Even if progressives become dominant in the blue side of Congress, there's still value (if you're evil and actively trying to impoverish people) in maintaining spoilers to deny them a majority.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

It’s not that neoliberals control the money because they run/ran the DNC, but that the DNC had money because it was controlled by neoliberals.

No.

When Obama won in 08, he abandoned the DNC.

It operated in a zombie state for 8 years ran by neoliberals into bankruptcy.

When 2016 happened the DNC had zero money and only the chair knew it.

The chair and Hillary's primary campaign made an agreement with the DNC chair (no one else knew) that Hillary would fund the DNC. That came with the strings that Hillary's primary campaign controlled what the DNC said and did.

And that is what started the "victory fund" that stole money from state parties, and was handed to Biden, to Kamala, and Finally to the current DNC, who has given it all back to state parties with no strings already.

I highly recommend you read up on "the victory fund". Start with Donna Brazille's article because she was the first to blow the whistle. Literally "follow the money" and see that it's gone.

None of this is hypothetical, and Ken Martin didn't appear out of thin air, he had a decade long track record running a state party.

This requires zero faith in anyone, just like maybe an hour of looking up what's happened in the last decade of political history with the DNC, it is highly documented and takes the same level of effort as a jr high book report.

There's none cause not to put that level of effort in, and I'll most likely even edit in some links to start out with. But again, don't just take my word, look around yourself, all this verifiably happened.
